The AI melt effect turns one photo of you into a 5-second video where you soften like a wax candle in the midday sun, slump into a glossy puddle on the tiles, and then pull yourself back up, grinning. Here you add one photo, get a free preview still of yourself in a sun-baked courtyard in about a minute, then make the video in 1080p for 100 credits ($9.90). It's cartoon physics: smooth, shiny drips like candle wax or melted candy, no gore, and you come back whole at the end.
It started as a one-tap preset. On 1 October 2024 an AI video app released a new version with six effects you could put on any still image: explode it, squish it, melt it, crush it, inflate it and cake-ify it (VentureBeat, 1 Oct 2024). Videomaker's write-up described the melt as your chosen object melting into a puddle of liquid as if it were made of wax, which is still the look people want. Melt demos were on YouTube by 2 October, a week after launch The Tab was calling the pack a viral AI trend on Twitter and TikTok (8 Oct 2024), and tutorials in other languages followed within a fortnight.
Two years on, melting is a standing template across the remake sites. On 18 Oct 2026 Vidu has a Melt Down Effect Generator, Pollo AI and media.io each have an AI melt effect page, Magic Hour lists melt variations such as Gold Melt and Melting into Skeleton, Higgsfield has a hand-drawn Melting Doodle, and a CapCut template called Melting Effect Ai shows 1.46K uses. Ours keeps the funny part and skips the creepy part: you melt from the top down like a candle burning too fast, the puddle wobbles, and then you rewind back into yourself, in the same clothes, patting your face to check it's all there. Is the AI Melt trend still growing?
Established. The melt peaked with the rest of the one-tap effects in October 2024 and is now a staple that template sites keep in their libraries rather than a breaking trend; at least six template sites still offer it on 18 Oct 2026 and Google still completes "ai melting effect" on 18 Oct 2026. It suits a heatwave post any time, and it's a lighter alternative to the gorier face-melt edits around Halloween on Saturday 31 Oct 2026.

In the still it pants a little in the heat, ears drooping. Over the clip it softens from the ears and head down like warm candle wax: smooth, glossy drips in its own coat colours run down its body until it slumps into a shiny puddle with its markings swirled on the surface. The puddle wobbles, then rises back up into the same animal, on all fours or sitting, with its own face, eye colour, ears and markings; it gives a full-body shake like a wet dog and looks at the lens. It never turns into a person, never stands on two legs and never shows bones or anything inside its body. Sound: a soft gloopy drip, a wet splat, a rubbery boing as it reforms, then a happy sneeze or bark.
Photo tips for AI Melt
- One sharp photo of you, face to the camera and well lit, waist up or closer: your face has to be clear at the start and when you pop back up.
- If you wear glasses, keep them on for the photo: the scene keeps them. Take off sunglasses and hats.
- Bright clothes melt best: the drips and the puddle take their colours.
- One person per photo: your own, or an adult's who said yes, never a child's.
- For your pet, one clear daylight photo of the whole animal with its face visible, so it comes back looking like itself.

How long is the video?
5 seconds, vertical 9:16, in 1080p: about a second of fanning in the heat, two seconds of melting, a wobble, and the comeback. The original one-tap effects in 2024 also made 5-second clips.
What sound does it come with?
