What is the Clapping Cat AI trend?
Clapping Cat is the AI video where an ordinary pet sits up, breaks into a wide human grin and gives you a slow clap with a pair of small human hands. Here your own cat or dog plays it: add one photo, see a free preview still in about a minute, then make the 5-second video for 100 credits ($9.90), in 1080p.
It copies Black Cat Clapping, the meme that Aleksandr Kim, who posts as @merkurianin, started on 25 Sep 2026 with a 10-second clip of his own black cat. In it the cat looks like any pet until it grins with a human mouth and claps human hands, and that turn from cute to uncanny is the whole joke. The TikTok had 43.9M plays when we read it on 16 Oct 2026. Know Your Meme added an entry on 5 Oct 2026 and says the cat stands for someone applauding bad behaviour, which is why people drop it in after a caption about something that didn't deserve a clap.
The clip is AI built on a real pet. As MakeViral describes Kim's 27 Sep tutorial, he made a still of his cat with its paws raised and then used a motion-control video tool to copy a video of himself clapping onto it; the grin was his own widest smile. Our template gets there from one photo instead. We put the whole animal, with its own breed, coat, markings and eye colour, sitting up on a plain beige tiled floor seen from slightly above, the way the original was filmed on a phone. Over 5 seconds it looks up at you, the grin spreads, the hands come up and it claps slowly three or four times, with the slap of each clap in a quiet room and no music. If you'd rather keep it furry, the paws mix has it clap its own front paws with the same grin, the way ZOOOP's version does. We don't use Kim's clip or his cat: yours is the star, and the original stays his.
Is the Clapping Cat trend still growing?
A meme near its peak with its own-pet AI version just starting. The original was posted on 25 Sep 2026; Google searches for "clapping cat" peaked on 5 Oct and were still at about four-fifths of that on 13-15 Oct (read 16 Oct 2026). By 18 Oct 2026 MakeViral, media.io and ZOOOP all sold a clapping-cat template, and ZOOOP had a how-to guide dated 14 Oct.
How to do the Clapping Cat trend: by hand or in one click
By hand: put your photo into the scene with an image model, regenerate until the face looks like you, give that still to an image-to-video model with the moves written out, then check the face holds to the last frame.
Here, in one click: add a photo for each person, see a free preview still of you in the scene, then make the 1080p video from it. You pay only when it’s ready.
Clapping Cat mixes
- Human hands, like the original
- Its own paws: Paws version: the pet claps its own furry front paws together instead of human hands, with the same wide toothy grin, the same tiled floor, camera angle, slow clap and stare into the lens
Photo tips for Clapping Cat
- One sharp, well-lit photo of a single pet, face towards the camera
- Show the whole body, ears to paws, with the front legs in view: they become the hands
- A sitting pet works best; a photo from slightly above matches the clip
- Daylight beats flash; skip heavy filters and blurry action shots
- No other animals or people in the photo; the background is replaced by the tiled floor anyway
Who to cast
- Your cat (a black cat is closest to the original)
- Your dog
- A rabbit or any pet with a clear face and front legs in the photo
Clapping Cat FAQ
Is there a free Clapping Cat AI video generator?
You can preview yourself in the Clapping Cat scene free. The full 1080p video costs 100 credits, charged only when it's ready. Credits come in packs from $9.90 for 100 and work on any trend.
Which app makes the Clapping Cat AI video?
Creators put their photo into the scene with an image model, then animate it with an image-to-video model. This page does both for you from one photo: a free preview still first, then the video.
How many photos do I need for Clapping Cat?
One clear, front-facing photo per person (or pet). This template has room for 1. Add up to 3 photos of each for a closer likeness.
What happens to my photos?
They are stored privately, sent to the video model through short-lived links, never used for training, and deleted with your video after 30 days.
What is the Clapping Cat AI trend?
An AI video where a normal-looking pet sits up, grins like a person and slow-claps with small human hands. It copies Black Cat Clapping, the meme @merkurianin started on 25 Sep 2026 with his own black cat. Here your cat or dog takes the part, from one photo.
Can I make my own cat or dog clap like the black cat?
Yes. Add one sharp photo of your pet with its front legs in view. You see a free preview still of it sitting on the tiled floor in about a minute; the 5-second video is 100 credits ($9.90), in 1080p. Dogs, rabbits and cats of any colour work: the slug says black cat because that's the original.
Is there a free clapping cat AI generator?
The preview is free: a still of your pet in the scene, so you can check it looks like your pet before paying. The video itself costs 100 credits ($9.90). If the preview doesn't look right, stop there and pay nothing.
Human hands or paws?
Both. The original, and our main mix, uses small human hands, which is what makes it uncanny. The paws mix has your pet clap its own furry front paws with the same grin, for a cuter take.
Does my clapping cat video have sound?
Yes: the slap of the claps in a quiet room, like the original, which has no music. The "clapping cat funk" and "clapping cat song" versions on YouTube are later edits set to music; add any sound you like in TikTok.
Who made the original clapping cat?
Aleksandr Kim, who posts as @merkurianin, with his own black cat, on 25 Sep 2026. He isn't involved with Jump on the Trend: our template doesn't use his clip or his cat, and the original stays his.
What does the clapping cat meme mean?
Sarcastic applause. Know Your Meme says the cat stands for someone applauding bad behaviour, so people post it after a caption about something that didn't deserve a clap.
Why does my pet have three hands?
Hands are the hardest part for AI video, and every competitor page we read warns about extra limbs. Our scene asks for exactly two hands and no leftover paws; if a take still shows a third hand or melting fingers, tell us through the feedback buttons.
Is the clapping cat trend over?
Not as of 16 Oct 2026. Google searches peaked on 5 Oct and were back at about four-fifths of that high on 13-15 Oct, while own-pet AI versions were just starting on the template sites.
