What is the Instant Photo Together AI trend?
The AI Polaroid trend is a fake instant photo of two people together: you and your partner, your best friend, your mum, or a grandparent from an old picture, side by side in a candid flash snapshot with the white frame of instant film. You give an image model one photo of each person and it makes a new picture of the two of you that was never taken. People call it the AI Polaroid trend after the instant-film look; the name is the camera brand's, and this template isn't connected to it, so here it's called Instant Photo Together.
It took off in mid-September 2025, a few weeks after Google put a new image-editing model in its Gemini app on 26 Aug 2025. On 16 Sep 2025 Gulf News described Instagram feeds flooded with Polaroid-style AI photos, and Storyboard18 reported that a "Hug My Younger Self" version had filled Instagram with instant-style pictures of people embracing their childhood selves. The how-to videos came first: a Hindi tutorial on making the "trending Polaroid camera AI photo" went up on YouTube on 14 Sep 2025 and had about 149K views when we read it on 18 Oct 2026, and a couples version from 15 Sep had about 48K. Many posts paired people with film stars. Google later put "you with your younger self", with a prompt asking for a picture that looks taken on an instant camera, third on its list of favourite trends of 2025.
Here you add one clear photo of yourself and one of the other person, both adults who are happy to be in it. You see a free, watermarked preview of the first look in under a minute, then get three instant photos (the curtain hug, a night out and a sunny afternoon) for 5 credits each, 15 in all, charged only for the photos that come out right. Any of them can become a five-second video with Make it move. There's no younger-self version: it shows a child, and we don't make pictures of children from uploaded photos. And there's no celebrity look: this template is built for two people you know, from a photo of each, who both said yes. For the two of you on video instead, try AI Hug.
Is the Instant Photo Together trend still growing?
Past its peak, still searched. The wave was mid-September 2025, and the busiest tutorials we found all went up between 14 and 24 Sep 2025. A year on, on 18 Oct 2026, Google still completes "ai polaroid trend" with prompt, free, gemini, tiktok and app, and "polaroid ai prompt" with couple. Zooop showed 1,704 uses of its version on the same day. So it has settled into a steady look that people come back to for anniversaries, birthdays and long-distance friends, rather than a trend that's rising.
The Instant Photo Together looks
One make gives you 3 photos, one in each look:
- The curtain hug: A candid instant photo of the two people from the photos standing close together in front of a plain white curtain, arms around each other, heads leaning in, one smiling and one mid-laugh, both looking into the lens. Framed from the chest up, side by side, faces large and sharp. A direct on-camera flash lights their faces and throws a soft shadow onto the curtain behind them. The picture is an instant-film print with a plain white border, thicker at the bottom, and nothing written on it.
- Night out: A flash snapshot of the two people from the photos late in the evening at a small house party, cheek to cheek in a dim kitchen, one holding up a glass of water with a lemon slice, both grinning at the camera. Strong direct flash on their faces, the room behind them dark with warm blurred lamps and a string of fairy lights. Framed from the shoulders up. An instant-film print with a plain white border, thicker at the bottom, nothing written on it.
- Sunny afternoon: A summer snapshot of the two people from the photos sitting side by side on a low stone wall by the sea, shoulders touching, squinting and laughing into the low afternoon sun, a little wind in their hair. Natural light with a soft overexposed glow on the sea and sky behind them, framed from the waist up. An instant-film print with a plain white border, thicker at the bottom, nothing written on it.
The Instant Photo Together AI prompt
Want to do it yourself? Paste this into any image model that accepts your photo (Gemini, ChatGPT and others), with a clear, front-facing photo attached:
Create a new 4:5 photograph of the people in my uploaded photos: A candid instant photo of the two people from the photos standing close together in front of a plain white curtain, arms around each other, heads leaning in, one smiling and one mid-laugh, both looking into the lens. Framed from the chest up, side by side, faces large and sharp. A direct on-camera flash lights their faces and throws a soft shadow onto the curtain behind them. The picture is an instant-film print with a plain white border, thicker at the bottom, and nothing written on it. Style: A real instant-film print filling the frame: the photo sits inside a plain white border that is thicker at the bottom, with nothing written on it. Inside, a candid snapshot from a cheap fixed-lens instant camera: direct on-camera flash, gentle fall-off into darker corners, fine film grain, slightly lifted blacks, warm, faded colour and a touch of softness. Natural skin with pores and shine, no retouching.. Keep their faces exactly as in the photos (same features, skin tone and hair), natural skin, no filter, no extra people.
For the other looks, swap the scene for one from the list above. If the face drifts, add a second photo from another angle and ask it to keep the face exactly as in the photos.

Photo tips for Instant Photo Together
- One clear photo of each person, face to the camera, eyes open. Phone selfies work.
- If one of you is from an old photo, pick one where they're an adult and the face is sharp; a good scan of a print is fine.
- Waist-up photos let the picture keep each person's own clothes.
- Both people have to be adults who are happy to be in it. We don't make younger-self or celebrity versions.
Who to cast
- You and your partner
- You and your best friend
- You and a brother, sister or parent
- You and a grandparent, from an old photo of them as an adult

Instant Photo Together FAQ
Is the Instant Photo Together AI photo free?
You can see a free, watermarked preview of yourself first. The full set is 3 photos (The curtain hug, Night out, Sunny afternoon) for 15 credits, about $1.40 to $2, charged only for photos that come out right.
What is the Instant Photo Together AI prompt?
It's on this page under "The prompt": copy it into any image model that accepts your photo. Or press Make here, and we run it on your photo, check the face and give you every look at once.
Can I turn my Instant Photo Together photo into a video?
Yes. Press "Make it move" under any photo for a 5-second video of it (50 credits).
What happens to my photos?
They are stored privately, sent to the model through short-lived links, never used for training, and deleted after 30 days.
What is the AI Polaroid trend?
A made-up instant photo of two people together, with the white instant-film frame, direct flash and faded colour of a real snapshot. You upload a photo of each person and an image model puts you in one new picture. It went viral in mid-September 2025, mostly through Google's Gemini app.
How do you do the AI Polaroid trend in Gemini?
In September 2025 people opened the Gemini app, uploaded one photo of themselves and one of the other person, and described the picture: an instant photo of the two of them, with a white frame and flash, in a place they chose. Then they regenerated until both faces looked right. Here you add the two photos and get three looks at once.
Can I make an AI Polaroid with my boyfriend or girlfriend?
Yes, that's what this template is for. Add a clear photo of each of you; both of you need to be adults who are happy to be in it. The curtain hug is the classic couples shot.
Can I make one with my younger self?
Not here. The younger-self version shows a child, and we don't make pictures of children from uploaded photos. Google's own write-up of 2025 trends shows how people did it in Gemini, but we leave it out on purpose.
Can I make an AI Polaroid with a celebrity?
There's no celebrity look here. This template is built for two people you know, from a photo of each, and the site's rule is that everyone you upload has agreed to be in it. Many posts in the September 2025 wave were celebrity ones; this is the version for you and someone who said yes.
Can I use a photo of someone who has passed away?
You can, with care: use a clear photo of them as an adult, ideally facing the camera. The picture is a new image made from their photo, so it will look like them, not like a real moment you shared. Some people find that comforting and some don't.
Is it a real Polaroid?
No. It's a new digital picture made to look like instant film. Nothing is printed, and the white border carries no brand name or writing. You can print it yourself if you want a real one for the fridge.
Why do the faces sometimes look off?
Two faces in one picture is harder for an image model than one. Use sharp, front-facing photos taken in similar light, and add a second photo of each person from another angle. That's why you see a free preview first, and why you pay only for the photos that come out right.
