What is the Gang Gang Dance AI trend?

The Gang Gang Dance is a 30-second AI clip of a dancer in a brown tweed jacket, striped tie, wide beige trousers and tan brogues freestyling at a hip-hop dance battle. With a completely straight face he pops his knees, flicks a limp wrist, leans back to stare at the lights, turns his back on his opponent and sinks into a low crouch with his arms hanging, all to Chef Boy's West Coast track "Gang Gang Gangland". The look, a blond bob and a tweed suit, is the one made famous by Jean Philanthrope ("Jean Phil"), the AI character who took over feeds in September 2026, which is why people search for it as the Jean Phil dance, the Jean Phil gang gang dance or Jean Phil AI.

The clip was posted on TikTok on 23 September 2026 by @unsvng, an account that restages real dance videos with AI characters. It had about 44.0 million plays, 3.9 million likes and nearly 800,000 shares when we read it on 18 October. The moves aren't AI: the caption credits the Belgian battle dancer Doyah, and the footage follows his first round against Nema in the hip-hop semi-final of LINE UP Season 11 in Gwangju, South Korea, beat for beat. Within days people began recasting it: AI characters in a tracksuit, a dark coat and a pair of flares, a woman in cargo trousers, a big man in black, and several creators putting their own face on the dancer, one of them in a neon ski suit. Almost all of them start from the first frame and keep the same stage, which is what makes them read as the trend at a glance.

On Jump on the Trend you add one photo. We keep the battle stage, the suit, the moves and the timing of the first 15 seconds, and put your face on the dancer. You see a free still preview first, then get the 15-second clip with the sound.

The song and the original

The sound is "Gang Gang Gangland", a version of Chef Boy's 2025 single "Gang Gang" with YG and Mozzy. Chef Boy is a West Coast rapper, and "Gang Gang" became a West Coast street anthem in 2025: the title is a shout-out to your crew, the people you're always outside with, and the hook is built for a room to yell back. In an April 2025 interview with the BACKONFIGG channel he talked through how the song came together and who embraced it first. At a dance battle it's a gift of a beat for hip-hop freestyle, slow and heavy enough to let a dancer play with every bass hit, which is exactly what Doyah does. Our videos keep the clip's own sound: the DJ's track as it played in the room, crowd noise included.

Is the Gang Gang Dance trend still growing?

About 47M views across TikTok (likely 45M–60M), as of 18 Oct 2026. Estimated from the top posts.

Holding: when we read it on 18 Oct 2026, 25 days after the original, its play count had edged up to about 44.0M (43.9M on 17 Oct; TikTok shows it in steps of 0.1M), and recasts were still collecting plays (one from 13 Oct went from about 45.8K to 65.5K plays in a day), but all the posts we track together grew only about 0.3% in a day. The newest recasts we found are from 13 and 14 Oct. The sound listed 380 videos on 16 Oct.

Photo tips for Gang Gang Dance

  • One person, face clearly visible and looking roughly at the camera.
  • Good light and a sharp photo: the dancer is shown full body, so the face is small in frame and needs every detail it can get.
  • A straight face suits it best: the whole joke is dancing like that without cracking a smile.

Who to cast

  • Yourself (the classic)
  • The friend who never dances at parties
  • Your dad, your boss or anyone who'd look most out of place at a dance battle

Gang Gang Dance FAQ

Is there a free Gang Gang Dance AI video generator?

You can preview yourself in the Gang Gang Dance scene free. The full video costs 100 credits, charged only when it's ready. Credits come in packs from $9.90 for 100 and work on any trend.

Which app makes the Gang Gang Dance AI video?

Creators use video models that take a reference photo. This page runs one for you, checks the faces and keeps the original sound, so there is nothing to download or edit.

How many photos do I need for Gang Gang Dance?

One clear photo per person you swap in. This trend has room for 1. Add up to 3 photos of each person for a closer likeness.

What happens to my photos?

They are stored privately, sent to the video model through short-lived links, never used for training, and deleted with your video after 30 days.

Is this the Jean Phil dance?

Yes, it's the one people call the Jean Phil dance or the Jean Phil gang gang dance. The dancer has Jean Philanthrope's look (blond bob, tweed suit), but the clip was made by a different account, @unsvng, and the moves come from a real battle round by the Belgian dancer Doyah.

Is Jean Phil real?

No. Jean Philanthrope is widely reported as an AI-made character (LADbible, Belgium's VRT NWS); his anonymous creator has said AI is part of how the videos are made. The Gang Gang Dance clip is AI-made too, built on real battle footage.

Who actually did the dance?

Doyah, a hip-hop freestyle dancer from Belgium. The AI clip follows his first round against Nema in the hip-hop semi-final of LINE UP Season 11 in Gwangju, South Korea, and its caption credits him.

What song is it?

"Gang Gang Gangland", the version of Chef Boy's 2025 single "Gang Gang" with YG and Mozzy. It's the track the DJ played during the round, and our videos keep that sound.

Why 15 seconds and not the full 30?

The original runs 30 seconds and many recasts copy all of it, but every one we compared starts on the same first frame, and the shorter ones stop at 10, 15, 18 or 20 seconds. Our video models top out at 15 seconds, so you get the opening 15: the knee pops, the lean back, the turn and the low crouch.

Do I keep the suit?

Yes. The tweed jacket, tie, wide trousers and brogues stay, because a man in a suit at a street-dance battle is half the joke. We swap in your face and hair from your photo.

How do I make the Gang Gang Dance AI video?

Add one clear photo of yourself, check the free still preview, then make the video. You get 15 seconds of the battle with your face on the dancer and the original sound.

What photo works best?

A sharp, well-lit photo of one face looking roughly at the camera. The dancer is shown head to toe, so the face is small in the frame and needs a clear starting point. Skip group photos, sunglasses and heavy filters.

Can I put a friend in it?

Yes, with their permission: use a photo of them instead of yourself. It's a solo dance, so it's one face per video.
