What is the AI Explode AI trend?

The AI explode effect takes one ordinary photo of you and makes it go pop: you stand there for a second, wobble, then burst into a cloud of bright party confetti, which hangs in the air and swirls straight back together into you, grinning. Here you add one photo, get a free preview still of yourself in a bright studio in about a minute, then make the 5-second video in 1080p for 100 credits ($9.90). It's cartoon physics: paper confetti only, no fire, no smoke and nobody gets hurt.

It started as a one-tap preset. On 1 October 2024 an AI video app released a new version with six effects you could put on any still image: explode it, squish it, melt it, crush it, inflate it and cake-ify it (VentureBeat, 1 Oct 2024). Explode demos were on YouTube within two days, on 2 and 3 October, and a week after launch The Tab was calling the pack a viral AI trend on Twitter and TikTok (8 Oct 2024). A Portuguese-language tutorial from 15 October 2024 on making a photo explode, inflate or melt had 2,836 views when we read it. By 2026 it's a standing effect on template sites. media.io's AI explosion effect page, with particles, smoke and a shockwave, has been up since at least 18 September 2025, and ClipTrend now sells a 6-second AI Explode Effect in which you burst "into chunks, confetti, and drifting particles" and it ends on the aftermath.

Ours keeps the joke and drops the wreckage. You don't stay scattered: the confetti swirls back and you come back whole, in the same clothes, patting yourself down, which is the bit your friends will replay. Your face, hair, facial hair and glasses come from your photo and are clear before the pop and after it. Pick the classic confetti pop, or the pixel burst, where you break into glowing cubes like a video-game character and click back together. The sound is made with the clip: a rubbery wobble, a party-popper pop and the rustle of paper, with no music. If you'd rather puff up than go pop, that's AI Inflate; to be squeezed, try Squishy Face.

Is the AI Explode trend still growing?

Evergreen, two years past its first peak. The wave came in October 2024, when a one-tap preset let anyone explode a photo and the clips spread on TikTok, Twitter and YouTube. Now it's a standing effect: two remake sites sell it (media.io since at least September 2025, ClipTrend), tutorials still go up, and on 18 Oct 2026 Google completes "ai explode effect", "explode ai free" and "ai explosion effect free". There's no single viral post to copy; it's a steady search, not breaking news.

How to do the AI Explode trend: by hand or in one click

By hand: put your photo into the scene with an image model, regenerate until the face looks like you, give that still to an image-to-video model with the moves written out, then check the face holds to the last frame.

Here, in one click: add a photo for each person, see a free preview still of you in the scene, then make the 1080p video from it. You pay only when it’s ready.

AI Explode mixes

  • Confetti pop
  • Pixel burst: Pixel version: they burst into thousands of small glowing pastel cubes, like a video-game character breaking into pixels, with a digital 'bloop' instead of the pop; the cubes zip back and click together into the same person. Clean cubes, never shards

Photo tips for AI Explode

  • One sharp, well-lit photo of you facing the camera, waist up or head to toe, with your face clear.
  • Your clothes burst and come back with you, so wear something you like; plain clothes work best, and logos are left off.
  • Glasses stay if you wear them in the photo; take off sunglasses and hats.
  • One person in the photo: you, or an adult friend who said yes.
  • Any background is fine; we put you on a plain studio backdrop so the confetti reads clearly.

Who to cast

  • You
  • The friend who's always about to burst with news (with their yes)
  • Whoever just got their exam results, promotion or good news

AI Explode FAQ

Is there a free AI Explode AI video generator?

You can preview yourself in the AI Explode scene free. The full 1080p video costs 100 credits, charged only when it's ready. Credits come in packs from $9.90 for 100 and work on any trend.

Which app makes the AI Explode AI video?

Creators put their photo into the scene with an image model, then animate it with an image-to-video model. This page does both for you from one photo: a free preview still first, then the video.

How many photos do I need for AI Explode?

One clear, front-facing photo per person (or pet). This template has room for 1. Add up to 3 photos of each for a closer likeness.

What happens to my photos?

They are stored privately, sent to the video model through short-lived links, never used for training, and deleted with your video after 30 days.

What is the AI explode effect?

A short AI clip where a photo of someone bursts apart. In ours you stand in a bright studio, wobble, go pop into a cloud of party confetti, then the confetti swirls back and you're standing there again, grinning.

Is the AI explode effect free?

The preview is free here: add a photo and you see a still of yourself in the scene in about a minute. The 5-second video, with the pop, the confetti, the snap-back and the sound, is 100 credits ($9.90), in 1080p.

How do I make the AI explode video?

Add one clear photo of yourself, waist up or head to toe, and pick confetti or pixels. There's no prompt to write: we make the opening still from your photo (that's the free preview), then animate the wobble, the burst and the snap-back. Download it and post it with any sound you like.

Is it gory or scary?

No. You burst into paper confetti (or glowing pixels in the other version), with no fire, smoke, debris or anything that looks like a real explosion, and you always come back whole and grinning. It's a party popper with your face on it.

Why do I come back together at the end?

Because the snap-back is the funny part: everyone sees you vanish into confetti and then pat yourself down to check you're all there. Some other explode effects end on the cloud of debris with nobody left; ours always ends on you.

Can my dog or cat go pop?

Not in this one: it's people only for now. If you want your pet in a cartoon effect, try AI Inflate, where your cat or dog puffs up and floats off, or see the pets page.

Can I do it with a friend?

One person per video. Use a friend's photo instead of yours if they're an adult and said yes, and make one each if you both want to go pop.

Is this the AI exploded view?

No. An exploded view is a diagram that pulls a car or gadget apart into its labelled parts. This is a person going pop into confetti and coming back.

Where did the explode effect come from?

From a one-tap "Explode it" preset in an AI video app's effects pack, released on 1 October 2024 with squish, melt, crush, inflate and cake-ify. Demos were on YouTube within two days, and within a week The Tab was calling the pack a viral trend on TikTok and Twitter.

What song do people use for the explode trend?

There's no single song: the 2024 clips went out with all kinds of sounds. Yours comes with a rubbery wobble, a party-popper pop and the rustle of confetti, with no music, so add a track in TikTok, Reels or Shorts when you post.

How long is the video?

Five seconds, vertical 9:16, in 1080p: about a second of standing and wobbling, one of the pop, and the rest the confetti hanging, swirling back and you grinning.

Is my photo kept?

For 30 days, then it's deleted automatically, and it's never used to train AI. You can delete everything sooner with Delete my data on Your videos; the details are in our safety guide.
