What is the Glow Up AI trend?
The AI glow up is a before-and-after video of you in one move: you start out sleepy in a hoodie with bed hair, press a hand over the lens, and when the hand pulls away you're the same person with styled hair, a sharp blazer and warm golden light on your face. Here you add one photo, get a free preview still of your 'before' in about a minute, then the 5-second video in 1080p for 100 credits ($9.90). It's the one-photo version of the glow-up transition people film for real: a bad-morning clip, a cut on the beat, then the dressed-up after.
'Glow up' is older than TikTok. Know Your Meme credits Chief Keef's song 'Gotta Glo Up One Day', released on 15 Aug 2013, and the before-and-after photo post took off on Twitter in October 2017, when one before-and-after pair passed 137,000 likes and Twitter made a Moment about it. On TikTok it became a transition with a new sound every wave: 'Who Is She' by I Monster in late 2022 (230,000+ videos by Dexerto's count on 20 Nov 2022), 'Lockjaw' with 2020-versus-2025 glow-ups in January 2025, and the 'divorce effect' glow-ups of December 2025. The AI version is an app effect rather than one viral post: media.io's makeup glow-up video page was online by 23 Aug 2026, and ClipTrend's AI glow up generator, a 6-second reveal, has been in our radar since its first run on 12 Oct 2026. On 18 Oct 2026 Google finishes "glow up ai" with generator, free, app, prompt, filter, men and video.
Ours keeps you you. Your face, face shape, skin tone, build, hair colour and length, facial hair and glasses come from your photo and stay the same before and after; the glow-up is the light, the hair styling and the clothes. Nothing is reshaped, lightened or slimmed, which is where beauty filters went wrong: a 2025 study of TikTok's Bold Glamour filter measured wider jaws, narrower noses and fuller lips (PsyPost, 1 Nov 2025). Pick Hoodie to sharp (a charcoal blazer over a white T-shirt, no make-up) or Soft glam (soft make-up on your own features and a black satin shirt). Nothing carries a logo, and the video comes with a whoosh and room tone but no music, so add your sound when you post.
Is the Glow Up trend still growing?
Evergreen. The glow-up post has been a format since 2017 and comes back with a new sound every year or so: Who Is She in late 2022, Lockjaw in January 2025, the divorce effect in December 2025. The AI one-photo version is a steady app effect rather than a wave: we found no single viral AI glow-up post, media.io's video page has been up since at least August 2026 and ClipTrend's since at least 12 Oct. Our radar's 'glow up' row scores 71.5, with 35 Google completions (read 18 Oct 2026). This page is for people looking for the effect in any week, not a breaking trend.
How to do the Glow Up trend: by hand or in one click
By hand: put your photo into the scene with an image model, regenerate until the face looks like you, give that still to an image-to-video model with the moves written out, then check the face holds to the last frame.
Here, in one click: add a photo for each person, see a free preview still of you in the scene, then make the 1080p video from it. You pay only when it’s ready.
Glow Up mixes
- Hoodie to sharp
- Soft glam: only the after changes. Soft make-up on their own features: a light base matched exactly to their skin tone, texture still visible, soft brown eyeshadow, mascara, warm blush, a glossy nude lip; no contour, no lightening. Hair blow-dried smooth, same colour, length and cut. A plain black satin shirt, collar open, instead of the blazer
Photo tips for Glow Up
- One recent, sharp photo of you as an adult, facing the camera in good light, chest up or closer.
- Your everyday face is the point: no beauty filter, face-tune or heavy make-up in the photo, so both the before and the after look like you.
- Your hair as it really is: the video messes it up, then styles it, but keeps its colour, length and cut.
- Glasses stay if you wear them in the photo; take off sunglasses and hats.
- One person in the photo. Your clothes don't matter: both outfits come from the scene.
Who to cast
- You (the classic)
- The friend who swears they're not a morning person
- Anyone with a new job, a date or a big night coming up
Glow Up FAQ
Is there a free Glow Up AI video generator?
You can preview yourself in the Glow Up scene free. The full 1080p video costs 100 credits, charged only when it's ready. Credits come in packs from $9.90 for 100 and work on any trend.
Which app makes the Glow Up AI video?
Creators put their photo into the scene with an image model, then animate it with an image-to-video model. This page does both for you from one photo: a free preview still first, then the video.
How many photos do I need for Glow Up?
One clear, front-facing photo per person (or pet). This template has room for 1. Add up to 3 photos of each for a closer likeness.
What happens to my photos?
They are stored privately, sent to the video model through short-lived links, never used for training, and deleted with your video after 30 days.
What is the AI glow up trend?
A short before-and-after video made from one photo: you start out sleepy in a hoodie with messy hair, a hand covers the lens, and you come back styled and dressed up in warm golden light. It's the AI version of the glow-up transition people have filmed on TikTok for years.
Is there a free glow up AI?
The preview is free here: add a photo and see a still of your 'before' in about a minute, with no card or account. The 5-second video is 100 credits ($9.90), in 1080p. ClipTrend gives starter credits and charges 40 credits a video; media.io gives sign-up credits (both read 18 Oct 2026).
How do I do the glow up trend?
Here: add one clear photo, pick Hoodie to sharp or Soft glam, check the free preview, then make the video and post it with your own sound. Filming it yourself takes two clips in the same spot: a bad-morning shot, a cut as your hand covers the lens, then the styled shot.
Will it change my face or skin tone?
No. It's written to keep your face shape, features, skin tone and build exactly as in your photo; only the light, your hair styling and your clothes change. Nothing is slimmed, lightened or reshaped: it's your own face, better lit and styled.
Does the glow up AI work for men?
Yes. Hoodie to sharp has no make-up: a charcoal blazer over a white T-shirt, your hair styled and your beard, if you have one, kept in its shape with neat edges. Soft glam is there for anyone who wants make-up.
What's the AI glow up prompt?
The shared prompts ask for the same person with better light, styled hair and a new outfit, and warn against plastic-looking skin; media.io's prompt page lists 25. Here you don't write one: the before, the after and the move are written for you.
What song is used for the glow up trend?
There's no single one: each wave brings its own sound. 'Who Is She' by I Monster carried late 2022, 'Lockjaw' the 2020-versus-2025 posts of January 2025, and part of Don McLean's 'American Pie' the divorce glow-ups of December 2025. Your video has a whoosh and room tone but no music, so add the sound in TikTok.
How long is the video?
5 seconds: two seconds of the before, the hand over the lens, then about two and a half seconds of the after. ClipTrend's runs 6 seconds.
Can I get a new haircut or hair colour?
No. Your hair keeps its colour, length and cut from your photo: it's messy in the before and washed and styled in the after. That's what keeps the after recognisably you.
Can I use an old photo of me as the before?
No. Use one recent photo of you as an adult: the before and the after are both made from it, the before as you on a slow morning. Jump on the Trend is for adults (18+), and the video never makes you look younger.
Can I do it with a friend or my dog?
Not this one: it's one adult per video. Make one each and post them side by side, or try the Muscle Filter, which has a pet version.
Is it the same as the elevator outfit change?
No. The Elevator Outfit Change keeps you as you are and changes your outfit each time the lift doors close, three outfits in all. The glow-up is one move from scruffy to polished, with your hair and the light changing too.
Is it the same as asking ChatGPT how to glow up?
No. In August 2025 Hypebae reported people uploading a selfie and asking ChatGPT for glow-up advice (14 Aug 2025), and searches like "ai glow up coach" mean that. This is a video: it shows you styled and doesn't rate you.
Is my photo kept?
For 30 days, then it's deleted automatically, and it's never used for training. You can delete everything sooner with Delete my data on Your videos; the details are in our safety guide.
