What is the AI Rain Effect AI trend?
The AI rain effect puts you in a downpour at night, filmed like the moody bit of a music video. Your hair is soaked, rain runs down your face, blue light catches the drops, and the city behind you is a blur of neon. You look into the lens, slowly tip your face up to the sky with your eyes closed, then lower your chin and look back with the smallest smile. The couple version is the same rain with two of you, one leaning into the other's arms.
It started as a photo prompt. In September 2025 people in India and the Philippines were pasting rain-portrait prompts into Google's Gemini app (YouTube tutorials for "couple rain" edits date from 15 September), which is why so many people still call it Gemini rain. In October it moved to video: MakeViral dates the #rainaieffect tag on TikTok to 6 October 2025, a couple-in-the-rain tutorial to 7 October and a "Google Gemini Rain AI Effect Filter" tutorial, at 1.7 million views, to 9 October. A couple tutorial from 22 December 2025 has 3.3 million. It came back with the monsoon in July 2026 and again this month, when tutorial accounts started pushing the couple version from 14 October.
Here you add one photo, or two for the couple version. You get a free preview still of you in the rain, usually in about a minute, then the 5-second video for 100 credits ($9.90), in 1080p, with the sound of the rain and distant thunder and no music. Your face, hair and clothes come from your photo; the rain makes them wet.
Is the AI Rain Effect trend still growing?
Recurring, not breaking: a Gemini photo prompt in September 2025, a TikTok video effect from October 2025, back with the monsoon in July 2026, and the couple version pushed again from 14 Oct 2026 (MakeViral). On 18 Oct 2026 Google completes "ai rain effect" (on photo, app, video, prompt, filter), "ai rain video generator" and "rain ai video".
How to do the AI Rain Effect trend: by hand or in one click
By hand: put your photo into the scene with an image model, regenerate until the face looks like you, give that still to an image-to-video model with the moves written out, then check the face holds to the last frame.
Here, in one click: add a photo for each person, see a free preview still of you in the scene, then make the 1080p video from it. You pay only when it’s ready.
AI Rain Effect mixes
- Just you
- You + your person: Couple version: two people framed from the chest up in the rain, each with their own face, hair, facial hair and glasses and their own clothes, soaked but fully opaque. The person from the first photo leans into the arms of the person from the second, cheek against their chest; the second holds them and rests their chin lightly on the first's head. Both faces turned to the camera, sharp and lit. Exactly two people; tender, fully clothed, no kissing
Photo tips for AI Rain Effect
- A sharp, front-facing photo from the chest up with your eyes open: the rain hides a lot, so the face needs detail.
- No sunglasses, hats or hoods.
- Loose hair looks best wet, but any style works, and your hair colour stays.
- For the couple version, one person per photo and both faces clear.
- Wear what you'd like to be soaked in: your clothes from the photo come with you.
Who to cast
- You, for the main-character shot
- You and your partner, for the couple in the rain
- A friend who wants a moody new profile video
AI Rain Effect FAQ
Is there a free AI Rain Effect AI video generator?
You can preview yourself in the AI Rain Effect scene free. The full 1080p video costs 100 credits, charged only when it's ready. Credits come in packs from $9.90 for 100 and work on any trend.
Which app makes the AI Rain Effect AI video?
Creators put their photo into the scene with an image model, then animate it with an image-to-video model. This page does both for you from one photo: a free preview still first, then the video.
How many photos do I need for AI Rain Effect?
One clear, front-facing photo per person (or pet). This template has room for 2. Add up to 3 photos of each for a closer likeness.
What happens to my photos?
They are stored privately, sent to the video model through short-lived links, never used for training, and deleted with your video after 30 days.
What is the AI rain effect?
An AI clip, or photo, of you in heavy rain at night: soaked hair, drops on your face, cool blue light, your face tipped up to the sky with your eyes closed. It started as a Gemini photo prompt in September 2025 and became a TikTok video effect in October 2025. Here it's a 5-second video made from one photo.
Why do people call it Gemini rain?
Because the first wave was made in Google's Gemini app: people pasted a rain-portrait prompt and their photo into it. The TikTok video versions came from app templates after that. You don't need Gemini or any other app to make it here.
Is there a free AI rain video generator?
The preview is free: add your photo and a still of you in the rain comes back, usually in about a minute. The 5-second video is 100 credits ($9.90). We'd rather say that than call it free.
How do I make the AI rain effect video from my photo?
Add one sharp photo of yourself from the chest up, or pick the couple version and add two. Check the free preview still, then make the video. No prompt to write: the rain, the light and the slow look up to the sky are built in.
Can I do the couple in the rain version?
Yes, pick You + your person and add one photo of each of you. One of you leans into the other's arms in the rain, then you both look to the camera. It stays tender: fully clothed, no kissing. Use a photo of someone who's happy to be in it.
What photo works best for the AI rain effect?
A sharp, front-facing photo from the chest up with your eyes open and your face well lit. Rain and blue light hide detail, so a clear face matters more here than usual. Skip sunglasses, hats and hoods; loose hair looks great wet.
How long is it, and does it have sound?
Five seconds, vertical 9:16, in 1080p, in slow motion. It comes with heavy rain and soft, distant thunder and no music, so you can add a song in TikTok or Instagram if you want one.
Will I still look like me with soaked hair?
Your face, hair colour, facial hair, glasses and clothes come from your photo; the rain only makes them wet. The clip starts and ends with you looking into the lens, so the first and last frames are the clearest look at your face. Check the free preview first.
Is this the CapCut rain filter?
No. That's a template inside CapCut that many TikTok tutorials use. This makes the same look from your photo here, with no app to install: a free preview still, then the video.
Is this the neon rain, rainy car window look?
Close, but not the same shot. Some AI sites sell a face behind a rain-beaded taxi window with neon behind it; the trend people search for is you out in the rain itself, face to the sky. We kept a little neon in the background.
Where did the AI rain trend start?
As Gemini photo prompts in India and the Philippines in mid-September 2025, then on TikTok from 6 October 2025, when the #rainaieffect tag started and the first couple and solo tutorials went up. It has come back since, with the monsoon in July 2026 and a new push of the couple version in October 2026.
