What is the Powder Explosion AI trend?
Powder Explosion is a 5-second slow-motion AI video in which a burst of bright, Holi-style colour powder erupts from behind you, pink, yellow, electric blue and green, billows out to fill the frame and hangs in the light while you stand in the middle of it and break into a grin. Add one photo, get a free preview still of yourself in front of a dark backdrop with the first wisps of colour curling up behind your shoulders, then make the video in 1080p for 100 credits ($9.90).
It started life as an app effect, not a single viral clip. Higgsfield, an AI video company, added Powder Explosion in its Effects Pack 5 on 23 Jun 2025, in the same drop as Clone Explosion, Black Tears, Paparazzi and Earth Zoom Out, and described it as bursting colour into the frame with stadium-scale energy. Its preset page, still up when we read it on 18 Oct 2026, describes a burst of colourful or dusty powder that erupts around the subject, for dramatic entrances, dance shots and visual flair. Other template sites now sell their own versions: Magic Hour has Vibrant Color Powder and Colorboom, and media.io has a Holi Color Splash effect.
The look itself is much older than the apps. Coloured powder thrown in slow motion is how people have filmed Holi, colour runs, weddings and gender reveals for years, and on Google 'color powder explosion' still completes to wedding, gender reveal, video and background searches (read 18 Oct 2026). Ours keeps the part that makes it worth posting: you stay solid and recognisable in the middle of the cloud. The powder flies around your head, not over your face, and nothing about it looks like a real explosion: no smoke, no fire, no debris.
Is the Powder Explosion trend still growing?
An evergreen app effect, not a breaking trend. Higgsfield has sold it since 23 Jun 2025 and several template sites now sell versions; on 18 Oct 2026 Google shows no AI-specific completions for it, while 'holi ai video' and 'color powder explosion' searches are steady. Expect a lift around Holi (usually March) and around birthdays and gender reveals year-round.
How to do the Powder Explosion trend: by hand or in one click
By hand: put your photo into the scene with an image model, regenerate until the face looks like you, give that still to an image-to-video model with the moves written out, then check the face holds to the last frame.
Here, in one click: add a photo for each person, see a free preview still of you in the scene, then make the 1080p video from it. You pay only when it’s ready.
Photo tips for Powder Explosion
- One sharp photo of you, face to the camera and well lit, waist up or closer: the powder flies round your face, so it needs to be clear.
- If you wear glasses, keep them on for the photo: the scene keeps them. Take off sunglasses and hats.
- Your outfit stays as it is; light or white clothes show the colour best.
- One person per photo: your own, or an adult's who said yes, never a child's.
Who to cast
- You (the classic)
- The friend who always makes an entrance
- Your partner, with their yes
- The birthday person

Which app makes the Powder Explosion AI video?
Creators put their photo into the scene with an image model, then animate it with an image-to-video model. This page does both for you from one photo: a free preview still first, then the video.
How many photos do I need for Powder Explosion?
One clear, front-facing photo per person (or pet). This template has room for 1. Add up to 3 photos of each for a closer likeness.
What happens to my photos?
They are stored privately, sent to the video model through short-lived links, never used for training, and deleted with your video after 30 days.
What is the AI powder explosion effect?
A 5-second slow-motion AI video where a burst of bright colour powder, pink, yellow, blue and green, erupts from behind you, fills the frame and hangs in the light while you stand in the middle of it and grin. It's made from one photo, and your face stays recognisably yours.
Is it free?
The preview is free: add a photo and see a still of yourself against a dark backdrop with the first wisps of colour curling up behind you, in about a minute. The 5-second video is 100 credits ($9.90), in 1080p.
How do I make a powder explosion video from a photo?
1. Add one clear photo of your face, waist up, looking at the camera. 2. Check the free preview. 3. Make the video. There's no prompt to write and no editing app: the backdrop, the light, the powder burst, the slow motion and the sound are built in. 4. Post it on TikTok, Reels or Shorts with whatever sound you like.
What happens in the 5 seconds?
For the first second you stand still and take a breath as the wisps behind you thicken. Then, with a soft thump, the powder blasts out from behind and around you in slow motion, lit from behind so the clouds glow. A slow push-in follows as the colour swirls and hangs and a little dust settles on your hair and shoulders. In the last second you break into a grin. It's one continuous shot with its own sound.
Is it the same as a Holi video?
It borrows the Holi look: bright gulal-style powder in pink, yellow, blue and green. But it's a studio-style effect shot, not a festival scene: there's no crowd, nobody throws powder at you and there's no religious imagery. If you want a Holi status video, it works well for that; Holi itself usually falls in March.
Will it still look like me?
That's the aim. The powder swirls around your head rather than over your face, so your face, hair and glasses stay clear and yours. The free preview shows your face before the burst, and every take is new, so watch yours before you post it.
Do I turn into dust?
No. You stay solid the whole time; the powder erupts around you. If you want to crumble away into dust, that's a different effect, and AI Explode bursts you into confetti.
Is the powder explosion a big TikTok trend?
Not one we can put a number on. It's a popular app effect, sold by Higgsfield since June 2025 and now by several template sites, rather than one viral clip, and Google shows no AI-specific completions for it yet (read 18 Oct 2026). The slow-motion colour-burst look is a long-standing favourite for entrances, birthdays, gender reveals and Holi posts.
Can I do it with a friend or my pet?
Not in one video for now: each one has a single person. Make one each and post them back to back.
What sound does it come with?
Its own: a deep soft thump as the powder goes off, a slow whoosh and a low airy rumble. There's no music, so add a sound in the app you post to.
What's the powder explosion prompt?
Other sites describe powder in a named colour bursting from around the subject while the person and set stay solid, with hard back light and a locked or slowly moving camera. Here you don't write one: you add a photo and the scene is written for you.
How is it different from the other effect videos?
AI Explode bursts you into confetti that swirls back into you. Lava Monster cracks your skin into glowing rock. Superpower has you throwing an element from your palms. Earth Zoom Out pulls back from you to space, and came out in the same Higgsfield pack as Powder Explosion. This is the one where you stay exactly as you are and the colour does the work.
