What is the Hair Dye Filter AI trend?

The hair dye filter is the AI video where one stroke of a dye brush at your roots turns your whole head a new colour in about a second, while your face and your haircut stay exactly as they are. Here you add one photo and get a free preview still in about a minute: you in a bright bathroom, brush in hand, a bowl of your chosen dye on the counter. Then the 10-second video, in 1080p, is 100 credits ($9.90). It's the newest turn of an old TikTok habit: showing off a dye job, or letting a filter pick the colour before you commit.

Hair colour reveals were a genre long before AI. YouTube compilations of the "hair color change challenge" from Musical.ly and TikTok go back to 26 Sep 2018, and a compilation of TikTok dye fails and wins uploaded on 11 Jul 2020 had 18.4 million views when we read it on 18 Oct 2026. Filters came next: BuzzFeed wrote up a TikTok effect that showed you blonde on 5 Jul 2020, and Instagram's hair colour filters had their own how-tos by October 2020. The AI video version is about a week old. MakeViral calls it a CapCut AI template and dates the TikTok sound most clips use to 2 Oct 2026; a creator in Nepal posted her burgundy clip during the Dashain festival on 11 Oct, and from 14 Oct creators in Nigeria took it into the millions of views. By MakeViral's counts, #hairdyefilter had 407 TikTok videos and 6 million views on 16 Oct, and the sound was in 20,000 videos by 17 Oct.

Ours keeps to the one move. Burgundy is the colour of the TikTok wave; Platinum blonde, Copper and Pastel pink are the other three. Your face, eyebrows, beard and glasses come from your photo and don't change, and so does your cut: the same length, parting, fringe and curl, only a new colour. The TikTok clips go on to straighten and curl the hair; ours doesn't, and it doesn't cut it either (MakeViral sells a separate bob haircut template for that). It can't recolour a video you've already filmed, and nothing real gets dyed, so if you're choosing a salon colour, treat it as a sketch rather than a colour match. The video comes with a brush stroke, a shimmer and a laugh, and no music.

How to do the Hair Dye Filter trend: by hand or in one click

By hand: put your photo into the scene with an image model, regenerate until the face looks like you, give that still to an image-to-video model with the moves written out, then check the face holds to the last frame.

Here, in one click: add a photo for each person, see a free preview still of you in the scene, then make the 1080p video from it. You pay only when it’s ready.

Hair Dye Filter mixes

  • Burgundy: the dye on the brush and in the bowl is a deep wine-red burgundy with a glossy cherry shine; in the video, after the brush stroke, the hair turns that even burgundy from roots to tips, not bright red, pink or orange
  • Platinum blonde: the dye on the brush and in the bowl is a cool, near-white platinum blonde instead of burgundy; in the video, after the brush stroke, the hair turns an even, bright, cool platinum blonde from roots to tips, with no yellow tones and no dark roots
  • Copper: the dye on the brush and in the bowl is a warm copper instead of burgundy; in the video, after the brush stroke, the hair turns an even, glossy copper from roots to tips, a warm orange-red like a new penny, not bright red and not brown
  • Pastel pink: the dye on the brush and in the bowl is a soft pastel pink instead of burgundy; in the video, after the brush stroke, the hair turns an even, soft candy pink from roots to tips, not neon, red or purple

Photo tips for Hair Dye Filter

  • One clear photo of you, face to the camera and well lit, from the chest up, with your hair down and fully in view.
  • Your cut stays the one in the photo, so wear your hair the way you want it in the video.
  • Glasses stay if you wear them in the photo; take off sunglasses, hats and headbands.
  • One person in the photo. Your clothes stay as they are, with a towel round your shoulders.
  • A shaved or bald head has nothing to recolour: this one needs hair you can see.

Who to cast

  • You (the classic)
  • The friend who has said 'I'm going platinum' every summer for years
  • Anyone with a salon appointment and second thoughts

Hair Dye Filter FAQ

Is there a free Hair Dye Filter AI video generator?

You can preview yourself in the Hair Dye Filter scene free. The full 1080p video costs 100 credits, charged only when it's ready. Credits come in packs from $9.90 for 100 and work on any trend.

Which app makes the Hair Dye Filter AI video?

Creators put their photo into the scene with an image model, then animate it with an image-to-video model. This page does both for you from one photo: a free preview still first, then the video.

How many photos do I need for Hair Dye Filter?

One clear, front-facing photo per person (or pet). This template has room for 1. Add up to 3 photos of each for a closer likeness.

What happens to my photos?

They are stored privately, sent to the video model through short-lived links, never used for training, and deleted with your video after 30 days.

What is the hair dye filter?

An AI video trend: one stroke of dye at the roots and your whole head changes colour, while your face stays yours. On TikTok it took off in mid-October 2026 in burgundy; here it's made from one photo in burgundy, platinum blonde, copper or pastel pink.

Is the hair dye filter free?

The preview is free: add a photo and see a still of yourself with the brush and your colour of dye in about a minute, with no card or account. The 10-second video with the colour change is 100 credits ($9.90), in 1080p.

How do I do the hair dye filter trend?

Add one clear photo with your hair in view, pick a colour and check the free preview. Make the video, then add the trending sound in TikTok when you post.

What colours can I choose?

Four: Burgundy (the colour of the TikTok wave), Platinum blonde, Copper and Pastel pink. Each one is even from roots to tips; there are no highlights or two-tone versions on this one.

Will it change my haircut?

No. Your length, parting, fringe, curl and texture stay as they are in your photo; only the colour changes. For a new cut, MakeViral sells a separate bob haircut template; we don't make that one.

Is it the same as the TikTok hair dye filter?

It's the same moment, made more simply. The TikTok clips, from a CapCut template according to MakeViral, show the dyeing, then straight hair, a flat iron and big curls. Ours is one brush stroke and a colour change, with your own cut.

Can it change my hair colour in a video I've already filmed?

No. It makes a new 10-second video from a photo. Recolouring your own footage is a job for a video editor.

Can I use it to try a colour before I dye my hair?

As a rough idea, yes; as a colour match, no. How a dye really comes out depends on the colour your hair is now and what's been on it, which is a question for a colourist.

Does it work for men, short hair, curls or braids?

Yes, as long as your hair is in view in the photo: short, long, curly, coily, braids and locs all keep their shape. A shaved or bald head has nothing to recolour, so that one won't work.

Does my beard or eyebrows change colour too?

No. Your eyebrows and any beard or stubble keep their own colour, the way a real dye job usually leaves them. Only the hair on your head changes.

Can I do it with a friend or my dog?

It's one person per video, from your own photo, and there's no pet version. For two of you, make one each.

What song is the hair dye filter?

Most TikTok clips use an "original sound" first posted on 2 Oct 2026, which MakeViral counted in 20,000 videos by 17 Oct. Your video comes with a brush stroke, a shimmer and a laugh and no music, so add the sound in TikTok when you post.

How long is the video?

10 seconds: the brush stroke and colour change in the first few seconds, then the head turn and the smile. The TikTok clips run 10 to 11 seconds.

What photo works best?

One sharp photo of you facing the camera, chest up, well lit, hair down and fully in view, with no hat, headband or sunglasses. More tips are in our photo guide.

Is my photo kept?

For 30 days, then it's deleted automatically, and it's never used to train AI. You can delete everything sooner with Delete my data on Your videos; the details are in our safety guide.
