What is the Day to Night AI trend?

The day to night AI video is a five-second time-lapse with you in the middle of it: you walk down a city street towards the camera while the sky behind you runs from blue daylight through a burning orange and pink sunset to a starry night, and the street lamps and windows come on around you. Add one photo and you get a free preview still of you on the street in daylight in about a minute; the video is 100 credits ($9.90), in 1080p.

The look is older than the AI version. Phone editors have taught a hand-made "Day to Night Transition" on YouTube since at least 19 May 2020, and a 7 Jun 2021 tutorial names a TikTok trend in its title; the old way needed a fixed camera and a sky swap. The template site media.io now sells it as an AI effect from one daytime photo: its 5-second vertical sample, a file last changed on 16 Apr 2026, shows a woman walking down a city street as the sky goes from blue to sunset to stars, and the first archived copy of its page we found is from 8 Jun 2026. By 25 Dec 2025, a YouTube tutorial was already showing a free one-click AI day-to-night effect on a wedding decoration shot. Film crews have their own, older trick, day for night: shooting in daylight, then darkening the footage and tinting it blue so it reads as night.

Ours always has a person in it, and that person is you: your face, hair, facial hair and glasses come from your photo, and you keep the clothes you're wearing in it, so it's a way to show off an outfit as the night starts. Pick a city street, a beach boardwalk with the sun dropping into the sea, or a rooftop over a skyline. The camera holds the same framing the whole way, so only the light and the sky change. It isn't a house or landscape converter: if you want a property photo turned to twilight, this isn't that. The video comes with footsteps and a soft city hum and no music, so add a sound when you post. More cinematic templates: Orbit Shot and Skyfall.

Is the Day to Night trend still growing?

An evergreen effect, not a breaking trend. The hand-made edit has YouTube tutorials from May 2020 and June 2021, the AI version had YouTube tutorials by December 2025, and media.io's template has been online since at least June 2026, but we found no single viral post to date it by. Searching is steady and broad on 18 Oct 2026: "day to night ai" fills Google's autocomplete list, though many searchers want a place, not a person, turned to night.

How to do the Day to Night trend: by hand or in one click

By hand: put your photo into the scene with an image model, regenerate until the face looks like you, give that still to an image-to-video model with the moves written out, then check the face holds to the last frame.

Here, in one click: add a photo for each person, see a free preview still of you in the scene, then make the 1080p video from it. You pay only when it’s ready.

Day to Night mixes

  • City street
  • Beach boardwalk: Beach version: instead of a city street they walk toward the camera along a wide wooden boardwalk beside a sandy beach, the sea and the horizon behind them, plain lamp posts and a few palm trees along it. The same change happens over the sea: blue sky, the sun dropping into the water in orange and pink, then stars, glowing lamp posts and the moon's reflection on the water. No buildings, signs or shops
  • Rooftop: version: instead of the street they walk toward the camera across a plain concrete rooftop with a low glass railing, a wide skyline of generic towers behind them. The same change happens over the skyline: blue sky, a vivid sunset behind the towers, then a starry night with office windows lit and string lights glowing along the railing. No real skyline or landmark, no signs or logos

Photo tips for Day to Night

  • One clear, front-facing photo of just you, face fully visible, with no sunglasses or hat unless you want them in the video.
  • An outfit you like matters here: you keep the clothes from your photo, and a waist-up or full-length photo shows us more of it.
  • Even daylight on your face works best; skip harsh flash, heavy filters and strong shadows.
  • No one else in the photo, and nothing covering your face.

Who to cast

  • You, in an outfit you want to show off
  • Your going-out look for a night-out post
  • Someone you're surprising with a birthday or anniversary edit

Day to Night FAQ

Is there a free Day to Night AI video generator?

You can preview yourself in the Day to Night scene free. The full 1080p video costs 100 credits, charged only when it's ready. Credits come in packs from $9.90 for 100 and work on any trend.

Which app makes the Day to Night AI video?

Creators put their photo into the scene with an image model, then animate it with an image-to-video model. This page does both for you from one photo: a free preview still first, then the video.

How many photos do I need for Day to Night?

One clear, front-facing photo per person (or pet). This template has room for 1. Add up to 3 photos of each for a closer likeness.

What happens to my photos?

They are stored privately, sent to the video model through short-lived links, never used for training, and deleted with your video after 30 days.

What is the day to night AI video?

A five-second time-lapse clip where you walk towards the camera while the sky behind you runs from blue daylight to a sunset to a starry night, and the lights come on around you. Here it's made from one photo of you.

Is the day to night AI video free?

The preview is free: add a photo and see a still of you on the street in daylight in about a minute. The 5-second video is 100 credits ($9.90), in 1080p.

How do I make the day to night AI video?

Add one clear photo of yourself, pick a city street, a beach boardwalk or a rooftop, and check the free preview still. If it looks like you, make the video. There's no prompt to write.

Can I turn a photo of my house or a landscape from day to night?

Not here. This template always puts you in the scene, walking towards the camera. If you want a property or landscape photo turned to twilight, you need a photo-editing or real-estate tool instead.

Do I keep my own clothes?

Yes. You wear the outfit from your photo the whole way through, which is why a waist-up or full-length photo works best. Your face, hair, facial hair and glasses come from your photo too.

Will my face still look like me at night?

That's the hard part, and what we build for: the night end is lit by street lamps so your face stays visible, and the video keeps your likeness through the sunset and the dark. Check the free preview first; if it isn't right, try a sharper, evenly lit photo.

Is it the same as the old day to night transition on TikTok?

Same idea, different method. The hand-made version, taught on YouTube since at least May 2020, needed a fixed camera and a sky swap in an editing app. Ours makes the whole shot from one photo, with a camera that moves with you.

What song is used in the day to night trend?

There isn't one shared sound we could find; one 2021 tutorial's title tags its version 'Talking to the Moon TikTok'. Yours comes with footsteps and a soft city hum and no music, so add any sound in TikTok or Reels when you post.

Is my photo kept?

For 30 days, then it's deleted automatically, and it's never used to train AI. You can delete everything sooner with Delete my data on Your videos; the details are in our safety guide.
