What is the Day of the Dead Pet AI trend?
The Day of the Dead pet AI video gives your dog or cat a festive Día de Muertos look: a sugar-skull pattern painted over its own fur, a crown of orange marigolds, and a candlelit altar behind it under strings of papel picado. Here you add one photo of your pet and get a free preview still in about a minute, then the 5-second video in 1080p for 100 credits ($9.90). In the clip the candlelight flickers across the painted fur, your pet blinks, then turns its head and looks straight into the camera. Día de Muertos, mainly on 1 and 2 November, is a living Mexican tradition, not Mexican Halloween: families welcome home and remember relatives who have died, with marigolds, candles, food and cut-paper banners, and UNESCO has listed it as intangible cultural heritage since 2008. Pets take part too. At Mexico City's Mega Procesión de Catrinas on 22 October 2023, people dressed as catrinas walked dogs whose faces were painted and who wore flowers round their necks.
There's no single viral post behind the festive look; it comes from the streets. Toluca's 2024 catrina parade invited pets to join its walking group as long as they came in costume or with Día de Muertos motifs, and in a Short posted on 4 November 2025, dozens of dogs and their families dressed as catrinas walk the seafront in Puerto Vallarta. Día de Muertos filters for pets have been on YouTube Shorts since at least 1 November 2023. Many AI videos posted as 'day of the dead pet' are a different format: tributes to pets that have died, which took off on TikTok from 29 September 2025 by MakeViral's account, and which MakeViral's own Day of the Dead Pet template, live by 15 October 2026, follows. media.io offers a person effect where marigold petals sweep over you and leave a skeleton with sugar-skull patterns; its page doesn't mention pets.
Ours is the festive one: your pet, dressed up for the celebration. Pick Marigold crown, or Catrina hat: a small wide-brimmed black hat dressed with marigolds and roses, worn with a lace collar. Your pet's breed, coat colour, markings and eye colour come from your photo, and the pattern is painted over its coat with no white base, so it still looks like your dog or cat. There are no skulls, skeletons or bones in the scene, and nothing spooky. The paint only exists in the picture, so nothing goes on your real pet's fur. The video is silent, so add your own music when you post. For more animal videos see the pet trends, and for spooky ones the Halloween trends.
Is the Day of the Dead Pet trend still growing?
Seasonal, building toward 1 and 2 November. Pet Día de Muertos posts cluster in late October and early November (the Shorts below run from 16 October to 4 November), and on 18 Oct 2026 a dog in a pan de muerto costume already had 75,850 YouTube views within a day of going up. AI versions are few: one competitor sells a pet template and media.io offers a person effect; our radar scores it 1.0; and Google has no completions for 'day of the dead pet ai'. The searches it can catch now are the costume ones, such as 'day of the dead dog costume' and 'sugar skull dog costume'. Expect it to go quiet after 2 November and come back each October.
How to do the Day of the Dead Pet trend: by hand or in one click
By hand: put your photo into the scene with an image model, regenerate until the face looks like you, give that still to an image-to-video model with the moves written out, then check the face holds to the last frame.
Here, in one click: add a photo for each person, see a free preview still of you in the scene, then make the 1080p video from it. You pay only when it’s ready.
Day of the Dead Pet mixes
- Marigold crown
- Catrina hat: Look change: no marigold crown. The pet wears a small wide-brimmed black hat in the elegant catrina style, tilted on top of its head on a thin elastic strap, the brim dressed with orange marigolds, two deep red roses and white lace trim, plus a soft white lace ruffle collar. Same painted pattern, altar and candlelight. The hat sits behind or between the ears, never over them, and the brim never shades the eyes.

- A rabbit or any pet that will sit for one clear photo

Which app makes the Day of the Dead Pet AI video?
Creators put their photo into the scene with an image model, then animate it with an image-to-video model. This page does both for you from one photo: a free preview still first, then the video.
How many photos do I need for Day of the Dead Pet?
One clear, front-facing photo per person (or pet). This template has room for 1. Add up to 3 photos of each for a closer likeness.
What happens to my photos?
They are stored privately, sent to the video model through short-lived links, never used for training, and deleted with your video after 30 days.
Is the Day of the Dead pet AI free?
The preview is: add a photo of your pet and in about a minute you see a still of it in the painted look and marigold crown, with nothing to pay. The 5-second video is 100 credits ($9.90), in 1080p.
How do I make a Day of the Dead video of my dog?
Add one clear photo of your dog, pick Marigold crown or Catrina hat, and check the free preview. If it looks like your dog, make the video. There's no prompt to write and no paint to buy.
Does it work for cats?
Yes. Cats, dogs, rabbits and most pets with a clear face photo work. The pattern is painted over your pet's own coat, so on a black cat it's mostly white lines and on a pale one mostly colour; a bright photo helps either way.
Is Day of the Dead the same as Halloween?
No. Día de Muertos, mainly on 1 and 2 November, is a Mexican tradition of welcoming home and remembering relatives who have died, with marigolds, candles, food and papel picado; UNESCO listed it in 2008. It sits next to Halloween on the calendar and the two now share some imagery, but it's its own festival, and a joyful one rather than a scary one.
Is this a memorial video?
No. It's a festive look for the pet that's with you today, like the dogs that walk in Mexico's catrina parades in costume.
Which looks can I choose?
Two. Marigold crown: fresh orange marigolds with a few small pink flowers between your pet's ears. Catrina hat: a small black wide-brimmed hat dressed with marigolds and red roses, with a white lace collar, after the elegant catrina figures of the parades. Both come with the same painted pattern and candlelit altar.
Why marigolds?
Orange marigolds, cempasúchil in Mexico, are the flower of Día de Muertos: families heap them on altars and graves, and their colour and scent are said to guide the souls of the dead home. On your pet they're simply the festival's colour.
Do I need to paint my real pet?
No, and we'd rather you didn't: the paint only exists in the video. Purdue's vet school warns against pet costumes with toxic paints or dyes (29 Oct 2018).
Will it still look like my pet?
That's the one thing we hold fixed. The whole animal comes from your photo: breed, face, coat colour, markings, size and eye colour. The pattern sits on top of its own fur instead of a white mask, and your pet stays an animal on four paws with its eyes and ears uncovered.
How long is the video, and what song goes with it?
Five seconds, vertical 9:16, 1080p, and silent. No one song is tied to this look, so add the music you like in TikTok, Reels or Shorts when you post.
What photo works best?
One sharp, well-lit photo of one pet, face to the camera, ideally sitting with its chest in view. Skip heavy filters, because the coat colour comes from your photo, and photos with other animals or people in them. More tips are in our photo guide.
Is my photo kept?
For 30 days, then it's deleted automatically, and it's never used to train AI. You can delete everything sooner with Delete my data on Your videos.
Can I put two pets, or me, in it?
One pet per video. For videos with people in them this season, see the Halloween trends.
