What is the Hit the Road Dude AI trend?
Hit the Road Dude is the "state property" meme with a new driver: your dog, your cat or you sits at the wheel of an old white pickup, leans out of the window and points a trespasser off private property. It comes from a real phone clip of a landowner telling a man fishing on his land, "Hit the road, dude. This ain't no state property. This is private property."

That clip went up on TikTok on 21 Aug 2025, filmed by the man doing the fishing, and passed 13.7 million views in about three weeks, according to Know Your Meme, which also calls it the State Property or Lock 'Em Up meme. Lip-dubs and green-screen edits followed within days. Then, a year later, it came back with animals: a dog acting out the scene in a pickup on 25 Sep 2026, then an AI bulldog in a camo cap at the wheel on 1 Oct, and in October Know Your Meme logged a resurgence led by AI edits that put someone else in the driver's seat. MakeViral counted 129.4 million views on the #stateproperty hashtag on 14 Oct.
Here you add one photo of your pet or of yourself. In about a minute you get a free preview still: your dog or cat upright in the driver's seat in a camo cap and a plaid flannel shirt, or you in a plaid flannel shirt or your own clothes, glaring through the open window. The 10-second video is 100 credits ($6.99), landscape like the original and 1080p: the point at the ground, the disbelieving double take, the hand thrown up and the arm straight out of the window. It never shows the man from the original clip, and it has engine, birds and wind but no voice, so add the "state property" sound in TikTok when you post. Is the Hit the Road Dude trend still growing?
At its second peak (23 Oct 2026). The clip went viral in August 2025 and came back in October 2026, with Know Your Meme logging the resurgence and template pages on at least five AI sites. On 23 Oct Google completes "hit the road dude" with "meme", "song", "gif", "ai" and "lock em up", and "hit the road dude ai" with "video", "template" and "generator": people now search for the AI version, not just the meme.
How to do the Hit the Road Dude trend: by hand or in one click
By hand: put your photo into the scene with an image model, regenerate until the face looks like you, give that still to an image-to-video model with the moves written out, then check the face holds to the last frame.
Here, in one click: add a photo for each person, see a free preview still of you in the scene, then make the 1080p video from it. You pay only when it’s ready.
Hit the Road Dude mixes
- Your pet: Pet version: an animal sitting up like a person. Every arm in the scene and motion is a furry front leg ending in its own paw, toes and claws; it points with the whole paw. The cap and flannel stay on over its fur through every move; its muzzle stays closed but for the one silent grumble
- You: Person version: no animal anywhere. Every move is their own arm and hand, five fingers, pointing with the index finger; the raised hand stays beside the head, never in front of the face
Photo tips for Hit the Road Dude
- One clear photo of one pet or one person, face sharp and well lit.
- Head and shoulders in view: the driver is seen from the chest up through the window.
- Pick a straight or grumpy face. A big grin in the photo tends to stay, and the joke is the glare.
- For a pet, both eyes and ears visible, not mid-blink or mid-shake. The cap and flannel come from the scene.
- Only photos of yourself or adults who agreed, never of the man from the original clip.
Who to cast
- Your dog (the classic of the 2026 wave)
- Your cat
- You, as the landowner nobody argues with
- The friend who always says that's my spot

They are stored privately, sent to the video model through short-lived links, never used for training, and deleted with your video after 30 days.
What is the Hit the Road Dude meme?
A real 2025 phone clip of a landowner in a white pickup who finds a man fishing at his pond, hears "I thought it was state property" and answers, "Hit the road, dude. This ain't no state property. This is private property." It's also called the State Property or Lock 'Em Up meme.

The preview is free: add a photo and see a still of your pet or you at the wheel in about a minute. If you like it, the 10-second video is 100 credits ($6.99), in 1080p.
Can my dog or cat be the driver?
Yes, that's the main version. Your pet keeps its own breed, face, fur and markings, sits upright at the wheel in a camo cap and a plaid flannel shirt, and points with its own paws, not human hands. More pet trends are on our pets page.
Does my video say "hit the road, dude"?
No. Your video has the truck's engine, birdsong and wind but no voice: we don't reuse or imitate the voice of the man in the original clip. Add the "state property" sound in TikTok or Reels when you post, and slide it so the point out of the window lands on "private property".
Is the man from the original clip in my video?
No. The only driver is your pet or you. The truck, the pond and the gestures are recreated from scratch; the original footage and the man in it are never used. Don't upload a photo of him either.
Where did the Hit the Road Dude meme come from?
TikTok, 21 Aug 2025: the man fishing filmed the confrontation and posted it as @bird28thegr8. It was a lip-dub and green-screen meme within days and came back in October 2026, when people started putting their dogs and cats, and AI characters, in the driver's seat.
What does "hit the road, dude" mean?
"Hit the road" means leave, go away. The joke is the driver's disbelief at the words "state property" and how flatly he delivers the line, which is why people use it for anyone in their spot, from a sibling in their chair to a cat on the counter.
Why is the video landscape?
Because the original phone clip, and the pet versions people copy, are horizontal: the truck door, the window and the pond read best wide. TikTok and Reels show it in a vertical frame with bars above and below, the way most posts of this meme look.
What photo works best?
One clear photo of one pet or one person, face sharp, head and shoulders in view. Go for a straight or grumpy face: the expression in your photo tends to stay, and a big grin makes a cheerful driver.
Is the Hit the Road Dude trend over?
Not yet. On 23 Oct 2026 it's at its second peak: Know Your Meme logged the October comeback, AI sites are still adding their versions and Google now suggests "hit the road dude ai video". For more meme trends you can star in, see this week's trends.
