What is the Lion Friend AI trend?
The AI lion video, also called Lion Friend, is the clip where a full-grown lion walks out of the dark into a car's headlights on an empty night road, and the person standing there kneels and hugs it. Here you add one photo of yourself: you get a free preview still of you on the road with the lion coming up behind you in about a minute, then the 10-second video in 1080p for 100 credits ($9.90). It's an AI video made from your photo. No lion is filmed, and nobody goes near one.
It started as an AI reel that people took for real. On 20 Aug 2026 the Instagram account @ten4ic posted a 12-second clip of a lion running up a dark road to a woman, who kneels and hugs it; it had 1,196,574 likes when we read it on 16 Oct. The next day an X account reposted it in Turkish as a lion meeting its old caretaker years later, and on 23 Aug a "Real or AI?" account on TikTok passed on a story that she'd raised it from a cub. On 26 Aug the fact-checking site Lead Stories rated it AI-generated: a watch on her right arm is there early in the clip and gone later. The make-it-yourself version took off with a one-photo CapCut template published on 5 Sep, used 4,340,384 times when we read it on 18 Oct. From 6 Oct how-tos spread it: in Turkish, Urdu and French on TikTok, by MakeViral's account, and in Hindi-Urdu on YouTube. MakeViral and Media.io both have Lion Friend pages now.
Ours is the gentle version. The lion walks up calm and unhurried, rubs its mane against you like a huge house cat, lets you hug it and lies down beside you. It's a plain lion, with no crown, costume or cartoon look, and it never roars, bares its teeth or jumps. Your face, hair, facial hair, glasses and clothes come from your photo. It isn't the @ten4ic reel with your face on it: the lion, the road and the moment are made new for you, so every run comes out a little different. The video comes with night sounds (an idling engine, crickets, the lion's low rumble) and no music, so add a sound when you post. It's a bit of fun, not a rescue story: the original fooled people into believing in a reunion that never happened.
Is the Lion Friend trend still growing?
About 600M views across Reels, TikTok (likely 190M–2200M), as of 18 Oct 2026. Estimated from the top posts.
Past its fastest growth, still steady (our read, 18 Oct 2026). The CapCut template went from about 3.9 million uses on 12 Oct (MakeViral's count) to 4.24 million on 15 Oct, 4,268,762 on 16 Oct and 4,340,384 on 18 Oct: roughly 110,000 new uses a day from 12 to 15 Oct, then about 36,000 a day from 16 to 18 Oct. The early counts are rounded, so treat those rates as estimates. People find it by what it shows rather than by name: Google has no phrasing for "lion friend ai", while "ai lion video" and "lion ai video" each bring up a full list, with generator, prompt, free and download among them.
How to do the Lion Friend trend: by hand or in one click
By hand: put your photo into the scene with an image model, regenerate until the face looks like you, give that still to an image-to-video model with the moves written out, then check the face holds to the last frame.
Here, in one click: add a photo for each person, see a free preview still of you in the scene, then make the 1080p video from it. You pay only when it’s ready.
Photo tips for Lion Friend
- One sharp photo of you facing the camera, well lit, chest up or closer, with nobody else in it.
- You're small in the frame and lit only by headlights at the start, so a clear, front-facing face matters more than usual.
- Your clothes come with you onto the road: a jacket or jumper suits a night drive.
- Glasses stay if you wear them in the photo; take sunglasses and hats off.
- Adults only: use your own photo, or one of an adult who has said yes.
Who to cast
- You (the classic)
- The animal lover in your group chat
- The friend who swears every cat likes them
Lion Friend FAQ
Is there a free Lion Friend AI video generator?
You can preview yourself in the Lion Friend scene free. The full 1080p video costs 100 credits, charged only when it's ready. Credits come in packs from $9.90 for 100 and work on any trend.
Which app makes the Lion Friend AI video?
Creators put their photo into the scene with an image model, then animate it with an image-to-video model. This page does both for you from one photo: a free preview still first, then the video.
How many photos do I need for Lion Friend?
One clear, front-facing photo per person (or pet). This template has room for 1. Add up to 3 photos of each for a closer likeness.
What happens to my photos?
They are stored privately, sent to the video model through short-lived links, never used for training, and deleted with your video after 30 days.
Is the AI lion video free?
The preview is free: add a photo and see a still of you in the headlights with the lion coming up the road, in about a minute and with no card. The 10-second video is 100 credits ($9.90), in 1080p. Other apps and templates set their own prices and free tiers, which change often.
How do I do the AI lion trend?
Add one clear photo of yourself, check the free preview still, and make the video if you like it. There's no prompt to write and no app to download: the night road, the lion and the hug are already written into the scene.
Is the lion video real?
No. The reel @ten4ic posted on 20 Aug 2026 was rated AI-generated by Lead Stories on 26 Aug, which pointed to a watch on the woman's right arm that disappears partway through. The reunion and raised-from-a-cub stories were added by reposts. Yours is AI too: no lion is filmed.
Does the lion attack or roar in the video?
No. Ours walks up calmly, rubs its head against you, lets you hug it and lies down beside you. It's written to keep its mouth closed, its claws in and its feet on the ground, with a low rumble instead of a roar.
Can I do the lion video with a friend or my dog?
Not this one: it's a one-person template, and the lion is part of the scene, not your pet. For you and someone you love, try AI Hug; for your dog or cat, Korean Baseball Fan Cam and My Ride Is Here both have a pet version.
What song is in the AI lion video?
There isn't one. MakeViral describes the original reel as playing with its own sound, and the how-tos we read use their own audio. Yours comes with night sounds and no music, so add a track in TikTok, Reels or Shorts when you post.
How long is the AI lion video?
10 seconds, vertical, in 1080p. The @ten4ic reel and the CapCut template both run 12 seconds; MakeViral's version is 10.
Is this the CapCut lion template?
No. It's our own take on the same moment, made from your photo on this page. The CapCut template from 5 Sep 2026 is a separate app's, and you don't need CapCut here.
What's the lion AI video prompt?
It varies. MakeViral's shared prompts put you on a dark country road at night in a car's headlights, with a calm lion walking out of the dark to rub its head against you, and rule out roaring, jumping up, biting and claws; Media.io's example has a friendly lion settling beside you in a sunlit meadow instead. Here you don't write one: the scene is written for you.
Is it the same as the AI lion pet filter or the Sheru videos?
No. The AI lion pet filter, which MakeViral dates to 2025, put a lion next to you in a photo. "Sheru Bhai" videos are a separate style of AI lion video on Instagram, going by a Hindi tutorial we read on YouTube on 18 Oct. This one is you, as you are, meeting a lion on a night road.
What photo works best for the lion video?
One clear, well-lit photo of you facing the camera, chest up or closer, with nobody else in it and no sunglasses or hat. You start small in the frame and lit only by headlights, so a sharp face matters.
Is my photo kept?
For 30 days, then it's deleted automatically, and it's never used for training. You can delete everything sooner with Delete my data on Your videos; the details are in our safety guide.
