What is the Grease Dance AI trend?
The Grease AI trend puts the two of you into the most famous dance in the film: the carnival finale of Grease (1978). We use the real scene, not a look-alike. One of you is the dancer in the black off-the-shoulder top and red heels; the other is in the black T-shirt, crawling on hands and knees after those heels on the grass until a foot nudges them away. Then the camera rises, the dancer struts off through the fairground crowd, and the two of you end face to face, dancing. Your faces and hair go onto the two dancers; the black outfits, the sunny carnival, the camera and the film's own soundtrack stay as filmed. Add one photo each, see a free preview still in about a minute, then make the 10-second video for 100 credits ($6.99). Going solo? Pick either part and the other dancer stays as in the film.

The scene is the finale of Grease, the Paramount musical directed by Randal Kleiser that opened in US cinemas on 16 June 1978 and has grossed about $396 million worldwide across its releases. The carnival was filmed at John Marshall High School in Los Feliz, Los Angeles. The song is You're the One That I Want, written and produced by John Farrar: it reached number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent nine weeks at number 1 in the UK in the summer of 1978. In 2020 the Library of Congress added the film to the National Film Registry. The finale's costumes, the black off-the-shoulder top, the shiny black trousers and the red heels opposite an all-black outfit, are a Halloween couples costume every year: Kelsea Ballerini and Chase Stokes wore them to Heidi Klum's party on 31 October 2024.
The AI version is new this week. MakeViral added a 'Grease Dance' template on 28 October 2026 that generates a 1950s couple dancing at a fair in those outfits, made from two photos; its page calls the trend 'Grease Trend AI' and dates the first 'Grease Trend AI' posts to 25 October 2026 (MakeViral's own reading, which we couldn't check). Ours is the other way round: the actual film footage with your two faces in it, so the crawl, the strut and the dance are the moves from the film, not an AI guess at them. The faces are yours; the film isn't ours, and we're not affiliated with Paramount or the film's makers. Looking for more film scenes for two? Try the Dirty Dancing lift, White Chicks or Hotel Lobby.
The song and the original
You're the One That I Want, written and produced by John Farrar for the film and sung by its two leads, released as a single in March 1978 in the US. It's the finale duet in which the good-girl character turns up in a new all-black look and the boy who had been playing it cool ends up chasing her. The clip keeps the film's own audio.
Is the Grease Dance trend still growing?
Early. MakeViral added its template on 28 October 2026 and dates the AI posts to 25 October; the Grease couples costume peaks every Halloween, and on 28 October 2026 Google completes 'grease trend' with 'grease tiktok trend' and 'why is grease trending'. We found no view count for an AI take we could check ourselves.
How to do the Grease Dance trend: by hand or in one click
By hand: save the clip, trim it to the part people remake, give it and a photo to a video model that takes a reference image, check every shot for the original person, then put the sound back in an editor.
Here, in one click: add a photo for each person, see a free preview, then make the video. It keeps the clip’s own sound, and you pay only when it’s ready.
