What is the Gigachad Filter AI trend?

The gigachad filter turns your own face into the internet's favourite joke about confidence: a jaw like a granite block, a heavy brow and an unbothered stare, all in high-contrast black and white. Here you add one photo, see a free preview still of yourself in the look in about a minute, then get the 5-second video in 1080p for 100 credits ($9.90). You start in profile under one hard side light, turn slowly to the camera, and one eyebrow goes up.

The look comes from the Gigachad meme. Its photos are retouched black-and-white portraits of real models from Sleek'N'Tears, an art project by the Russian photographer Krista Sudmalis. Wikipedia dates the meme to 2016; the first posts Know Your Meme records are a Reddit link on 15 Oct 2017 and, a day later, an anonymous 4chan post calling the man in them 'Gigachad'. In February and March 2021 the Average Fan vs Average Enjoyer format set a slideshow of the photos to Bring Me The Horizon's 'Can You Feel My Heart', and the meme spiked. Face filters followed: a TikTok effect had YouTube how-tos by 10 Mar 2022, an Instagram one by 18 Feb 2023, and in June and July 2024 Snapchat's Tough Guy Face Lens, nicknamed the Chad filter, ran through TikTok, one clip reaching 72 million views in a week by Know Your Meme's count. AI versions are the newest round: media.io sells a Gigachad photo filter (its sitemap lists the pages as updated on 8 and 16 Sep 2026) and suggests animating the result in a second tool.

Ours is a caricature of you, not of anyone in the meme. Your eyes, nose, mouth, skin tone, hair, facial hair and glasses come from your photo; only the jaw, chin, cheekbones and brow are pushed into meme proportions, and your body stays as it is, in a plain black T-shirt. It never copies the face of the models in the meme photos and doesn't make you 'better looking': it's a joke you're in on. Your pet can have a go too: the whole animal from your photo, chin up, in the same light. The video has a low bass swell and one deep boom but no music, so add your song when you post.

Is the Gigachad Filter trend still growing?

Evergreen, with a new format every year or two. The meme dates from 2016-17, came back with the Average Enjoyer slideshows in February 2021, became a TikTok and Instagram face filter in 2022-23 and Snapchat's Tough Guy lens in mid-2024, and AI photo filters arrived in 2026. Nothing about it is breaking right now: our radar scores the 'gigachad filter' row 1.0 from one remake site (media.io), but Google still suggests ten phrasings of 'gigachad filter' on 18 Oct 2026, one of them 'gigachad filter instagram 2026', so people are looking for it this year.

How to do the Gigachad Filter trend: by hand or in one click

By hand: put your photo into the scene with an image model, regenerate until the face looks like you, give that still to an image-to-video model with the moves written out, then check the face holds to the last frame.

Here, in one click: add a photo for each person, see a free preview still of you in the scene, then make the 1080p video from it. You pay only when it’s ready.

  • Your pet: The pet version: the pet turns its head slowly to the lens, lifts its chin and ends on a level, unimpressed stare with one slow blink instead of the eyebrow and smirk; never a human face, muscles or a different animal.

Photo tips for Gigachad Filter

  • One sharp photo of you as an adult, face to the camera, chest up or closer, in even light.
  • Your jaw and chin in view: no scarf, high collar, hand or phone in front of your face.

How many photos do I need for Gigachad Filter?

One clear, front-facing photo per person (or pet). This template has room for 2. Add up to 3 photos of each for a closer likeness.

What happens to my photos?

They are stored privately, sent to the video model through short-lived links, never used for training, and deleted with your video after 30 days.

What is the gigachad filter?

A meme effect that gives your face a huge squared jaw, sharp cheekbones and a heavy brow in dramatic black and white, after the Gigachad meme photos. Here it's a 5-second AI video made from one photo: you turn slowly from profile to the camera and raise one eyebrow.

Is the gigachad AI filter free?

How do I do the gigachad filter on my own photo?

Add one clear photo of yourself facing the camera. You get a free preview still in about a minute; if it looks right, make the video. There's no prompt to write and no app to install.

Will it still look like me?

That's the point of the joke. Your eyes, nose, mouth, skin tone, hair, facial hair and glasses stay from your photo; only the jaw, chin, cheekbones and brow are exaggerated. A sharp, front-facing photo helps it hold through the turn.

Does it make me look like the guy in the meme?

No. The meme photos are of real models, and we never copy their faces: you get your own face in the meme's style, light and pose. It's a caricature of you.

Who is the gigachad in the meme?

The photos come from Sleek'N'Tears, an art project by the Russian photographer Krista Sudmalis; Know Your Meme describes them as retouched photos of several models, and the project gave the character its own persona. The name 'Gigachad' came from a 4chan post on 16 Oct 2017.

Does the gigachad filter work for women?

Yes. It's a meme look, not a men-only one: the jaw and brow get the same exaggeration on any face, and your own hair and features stay. 'Female GigaChad' even has its own Know Your Meme entry.

Can I make my cat or dog a gigachad?

Yes: pick Your pet. The whole animal from your photo sits in the same black-and-white light, turns slowly to the camera and lifts its chin, with a slightly squarer muzzle and brow. It stays your pet, with no human face and no muscles.

Can I do it with a friend?

One person per video. Make one each and post them side by side, or try the Muscle Filter for the body version of the same joke.

What song is used for the gigachad filter?

Two are the classics. Bring Me The Horizon's 'Can You Feel My Heart' carried the Average Enjoyer videos of 2021, and g3ox_em's phonk track 'GigaChad Theme (Phonk House Version)', up since 18 Aug 2022, has 243 million YouTube views (read 18 Oct 2026). Your video has a bass swell and a boom but no music, so add the sound in TikTok.

How long is the video?

5 seconds: about a second and a half in profile, two seconds of the turn, and the eyebrow and smirk to finish. It's vertical 9:16 and 1080p.

Is it the same as the Snapchat, TikTok or Instagram gigachad filter?

No. Those are live camera lenses that give you a giant chin and a raised eyebrow in real time; Snapchat's Tough Guy Face Lens was the big one in July 2024. This is a made video from one photo, with your face kept and the studio light, the turn and the sound added.

Is there a before-and-after version?

Not here: you start already in the look. Some photo filters, media.io's among them, suggest a morph from your normal selfie, but our video is the slow turn, the eyebrow and the stare.

Is my photo kept?

For 30 days, then it's deleted automatically, and it's never used for training. You can delete everything sooner with Delete my data on Your videos; the details are in our safety guide.
