How to find TikTok trends early what actually comes first
Watch the remakes, not Google. On the AI trends we timed up to 16 Oct 2026, the first AI version to go viral came a median of about 2 days before Google searches started and 5 days before they peaked, and where we could date a CapCut template, it usually went up within 3 days of that first version. Remake-site pages, domains named after the trend and Google's own suggestions mostly turned up once searching had begun: they confirm a trend, they don't find it.
How to find TikTok trends early
Four checks, in this order. They come from timing 10 AI trends from their first post to their search peak, eight of them video remakes; the dates are in the table below.
- Watch where remakes start. An old clip often comes back through one AI version that takes off. Hotel Lobby's performance was four years old when an AI swap of it went viral on 16 Sep 2026; Google searches for 'hotel lobby ai' began four days later.
- Count copies, not views. One huge clip is a hit. Three or more different creators posting their own version of the same clip within about 72 hours is a trend starting.
- Check for a template. A CapCut template of the clip, with its use count climbing, means people want to make it themselves, even while Google shows nothing.
- Then search, to confirm. Type the trend's name plus 'ai' into Google. If suggestions come back, searching has already begun: you're on time, not early.

The order it happened in: 10 AI trends, dated
Oldest search peak first. Search is Google Trends for each trend's own name, worldwide, day by day. Search starts is the first day at a tenth of the peak, or for small terms the first day with any searches at all. AI head start is how many days the first viral AI version came before search started, then before the peak. Remake sites is the earliest date our radar found on any remake site's public listing of the trend as a template.
| Trend | First viral AI version | Search starts | Search peak | AI head start | Remake sites |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ghibli-style photos, a photo prompt that took off the day a new image tool launched | 25 Mar 2025 | 28 Mar 2025 | 30 Mar 2025 | 3 days · 5 days | – |
| Storm II, a scene from an April 2026 short film | 8 Sep 2026 on YouTube; on TikTok from 13 Sep | 13 Sep | 19–20 Sep | 5 days · 11–12 days | 26 Sep |
| Hotel Lobby, a 2022 studio performance | 16 Sep 2026 | 20 Sep | 26 Sep | 4 days · 10 days | 18 Sep |
| Raindance, a January 2026 music video | 27 Sep 2026 | 28 Sep | 3 Oct | 1 day · 6 days | 5 Oct |
| Rumpelstiltskin, an AI film first posted on Instagram on 27 Aug 2026 | 27 Sep 2026: a TikTok edit of the AI film's dance. Recasts with new faces came on 6–7 Oct, after the peak | Rising from 29 Sep | 5 Oct | 2 days · 8 days for the edit; none for the recasts | 9 Oct |
| Zombie love story, a story generated from two photos | 1 Oct 2026 on TikTok | Not timed | 4–6 Oct | Not timed · 3–5 days | Unclear |
| Alors on Danse, a 2010 French TV sketch | 3 Oct 2026 | 4 Oct | 7 Oct | 1 day · 4 days | 10 Oct |
| Bulin 47, a street freestyle posted on 2 Oct 2026 | 6 Oct 2026 | 3 Oct | 10 Oct | Search came first, by 3 days · 4 days | 10 Oct |
| Burning Bridges, a May 2026 music video | 5 Oct 2026 | 2 Oct | 10 Oct | Search came first, by 3 days · 5 days | 4 Oct |
| I Wanna Love You, an AI cat clip that people recast with their own pets | 1 Oct 2026 | 3–4 Oct, and small | Not yet: still rising on 14 Oct | 2–3 days · 13 days or more | 13 Oct |
The medians in the lead come from this table: about 2 days before search started (the 8 trends with both dates) and 5 days before the peak (the 9 where an AI version came before it). The search term is the name people type, with 'ai' where they add it ('hotel lobby ai', 'storm ii ai') and without where they don't ('bulin 47'). Remake-site dates come from those sites' own public listings, and a listing's date can be later than the day the page went up. The zombie listings mix several different zombie templates, so we left that date out. Rumpelstiltskin is left out of the medians: its original is itself an AI film, and what spread first was an edit of it, not a recast. Search read 15–16 Oct 2026.
Where the live trends sit right now
Where each one stood on 16 Oct 2026: three are past their Google peak but still gaining plays or new versions on TikTok, and one is still rising on TikTok and on Google. Add a selfie, or a photo of your pet, and you see a free preview still in under a minute, before you decide on the full video (100 credits, $9.90).
- I Wanna Love You↗ Rising ≈55M views · 1 pet · 10s The pattern on this page, still running: the AI cat went up on 1 Oct 2026, another cat was in the clip within four days, and new pet versions were still being posted on 13 and 14 Oct. Google still had no 'ai' suggestions for it on 16 Oct. Your cat or dog in the suit, paw in the air. See yourself in it
- Rumpelstiltskin Dance↗ Rising ≈57M views · 1–2 people · 9s The one where the first sign wasn't a recast: an edit of the original AI film's dance led, and the recasts with new faces came just after the search peak on 5 Oct. Its top remakes were still gaining plays on 16 Oct 2026. Solo as the imp, or bring a friend as the maiden. See yourself in it
- Alors on Danse↗ Rising ≈14M views · 2 people · 18s An old clip woken up by a single AI version: a 2010 sketch, recast on 3 Oct 2026, searched from the next day and past its search peak by 7 Oct. New versions were still appearing on 16 Oct. One of you plays the keyboard, the other can't stop dancing. See yourself in it
- Bulin 47↗ Rising ≈380M views · 1 person · 15s A brand-new original: people searched for the freestyle the day after it went up, before any AI swap. Searches peaked on 10 Oct, but the original was still gaining plays on 16 Oct 2026 (about 8.2M, from 7.9M a day earlier). You, in the middle of the crowd filming on their phones. See yourself in it
How to spot trends on TikTok before they're searched
Many AI remake trends are old clips with a new face. In the table, Hotel Lobby's performance dates from 2022, Alors on Danse's sketch from 2010 and Raindance's video from January 2026. In each case an AI version took off first, and Google searches followed within one to four days. So the place to watch isn't the clip's own history. It's the creators who make AI versions of clips: AI video, AI pet and remake accounts, and the people who copy them.
Look past TikTok, too. The earliest AI copy of Storm II we found was a YouTube video on 8 Sep 2026, five days before the first TikTok recasts. Rumpelstiltskin began as an AI film posted on Instagram on 27 Aug 2026, a month before the TikTok dance edit that spread it.
Treat a new AI video tool as a reason to look harder, not as a trend in itself. Storm II's first AI copy came a week after a new video tool launched on 1 Sep 2026, and after the three big model launches in how long TikTok trends last, the trends that followed peaked 5 to 33 days after the release.
How to identify trends on TikTok: count copies, not views
Views tell you a clip is big. Copies tell you it's a trend. Three Kittens Dancing had 107.4M plays on 16 Oct 2026, yet in the posts we checked nobody had recast it with their own pets: people reused the original kittens. The AI cat behind I Wanna Love You had about a fifth of those plays (21.9M), but another cat was in the clip within four days, dogs followed, and new pet versions were still going up two weeks later.
The bar we use for a trend that's starting is three or more different creators posting their own version of the same clip within about 72 hours. The zombie love story, a generated story rather than one clip, showed the same pile-on: on 1 Oct 2026 four different accounts posted zombie versions or tutorials within about 14 hours, and US searches for 'zombie trend' peaked five days later. Storm II's recasts reached TikTok on 13 Sep and had spread to several more accounts by 17 Sep, two or three days before its search peak.
Speed only matters early. A clip's breakout shows in its first few days: of the remakes we re-read on 15 and 16 Oct 2026, posts more than a week old mostly added 0–4% in a day, and the I Wanna Love You cat went from 21.8M to 21.9M plays at two weeks old. So look at a new clip twice, a few hours apart. Growth between two looks says more than one big number.
How to find trending templates on CapCut, and why they matter
A template is the plainest sign that people want to make a clip themselves. Where we could date one, a CapCut template usually went up between the same day and three days after the first viral AI version, still days before the search peak. The zombie love story had a CapCut template tutorial on TikTok by 11:01 UTC on 1 Oct 2026, under three hours after the earliest TikTok post of it we found.
You find templates through the posts. A TikTok made from a CapCut template carries a 'CapCut · Try this template' link, and the template's own page shows how many times it has been used. That count can run far ahead of Google: the one-photo Lion Friend template had about 4.28 million uses when we read it on 16 Oct 2026, and Google had no suggestions at all for 'lion friend ai' the same day.
A template alone isn't enough, though. Three Kittens Dancing had CapCut template posts within two days of the original in June 2026, and Google searches only arrived at the end of September. Look for both: a template, and several creators posting their own version.
What Google can and can't tell you
Google is where you confirm a trend. Suggestions for a trend's name plus 'ai' tend to appear once searching has started, so if you see them, you're on time rather than early. On 16 Oct 2026, weeks into those trends, Google finished 'hotel lobby ai' with free, video, trend, template and video generator, and 'bulin 47 ai' with video, free and video generator.
The pet trends we track don't show up there. The same day, Google had no suggestions for 'i wanna love you cat ai' or 'smalltown boy cat ai', though by our estimates the two trends have about 52M and 46M views. For AI pet trends, the copies in the feed are the only signal you get.
Google's own Trending now list won't flag them either. On 16 Oct 2026 the US top 10 was news, sport, weather and stock-market searches, with no AI video trend among them.
Signals that only confirm a trend
Three things feel like early warnings but, in our data, turn up around the peak. They're still worth knowing: when they appear, the trend is real and people are searching for it. That's the moment to make your version, not to plan it.
- Remake-site template pages. In 4 of the 7 trends in the table that have peaked and that we could date, sites like ours first listed the trend after Google's peak, and in one more on the peak day. Hotel Lobby and Burning Bridges were the exceptions, listed 8 and 6 days before it.
- Domains named after the trend. The ones we looked up were registered close to the peak: Bulin 47's and Raindance's on the peak day, Alors on Danse's and Hotel Lobby's the day before, Burning Bridges' two days before, Rumpelstiltskin's three days after and Storm II's two weeks after. There are exceptions: one Hotel Lobby domain was registered on 12 Sep, four days before the first viral swap.
- Know Your Meme entries. The AI Rumpelstiltskin entry went up on 6 Oct 2026, the day after its search peak. Black Cat Clapping got its entry on 5 Oct, the day searches for it peaked.
When the order breaks
A brand-new original goes first. Bulin 47's freestyle went up on 2 Oct 2026 and Google searches began the next day, three days before the first AI swap. If the clip is months or years old, the first viral AI version is your alarm. If the clip itself went viral this week, the original is. Burning Bridges, too, was being searched three days before the first AI version we could date on TikTok.
An edit of the original leads. Rumpelstiltskin's original is an AI film posted on Instagram in August. It spread through a TikTok edit of its dance on 27 Sep 2026, eight days before the search peak, and the recasts with new faces came a day or two after the peak.
A slow burner. Three Kittens Dancing went viral at the end of June 2026, but Google searches only began in the week of 27 Sep and were still climbing in mid-October.
The dance comes first. Wipe Me Down had its best search week of the year on 13–19 Sep 2026, on the back of people doing the dance itself. AI templates spread from 28 Sep, by one remake site's dating, after that peak.
How to find trending sounds on TikTok
Start from the clip people are copying, not from a chart. Tap its sound and the sound's page lists the videos that use it. In AI remake trends that sound is usually someone's upload of the clip itself, often several uploads at once, and rarely the official song.
The counts show why. When we read them on 14 and 15 Oct 2026, Bulin 47 ran on five different trend sounds with about 18,000 videos between them, and Raindance on six with about 9,600. Hotel Lobby's official sound showed 447,000 videos, but most of them were from 2022; the remakes sat on their own sounds, with about 11,600. The I Wanna Love You cat's sound and two follow-ups from the same account had 4,927, 743 and 806 videos, most of them people lip-syncing rather than pets.
So a big number on a sound can be old news, and a new trend's number can look small because it's split across several uploads. A sound that's trending gains videos between two looks a day apart, from creators you don't know, for the same clip.
When you post a remake, use the sound from the clip you're copying, so your video sits with the others. Videos made on Jump on the Trend keep the clip's own sound; pick the trend's sound in TikTok when you post.
How we timed it
Search comes from Google Trends, worldwide and day by day, for each trend's own search term, read on 15 and 16 Oct 2026. Google gives relative interest from 0 to 100, not numbers of searches, and small terms are noisy, so any date here can be a day out. The first viral AI version is the earliest AI version we could date that went on to be widely shared and copied, from each trend's own timeline on its page. Plays are as we read them; view totals for the live trends are our estimates.
The samples are small: the 2-day median comes from 8 trends and the 5-day one from 9, and every one of them is a trend that did break. We can't yet say how often a clip with an early AI version and a template never turns into a trend; we're measuring that now. The details of our own tracking stay private, and a person signs off every trend before it goes on the site. For how fast a trend fades once it peaks, see how long TikTok trends last.
Questions people ask
How do you spot trends early on TikTok?
Watch for one AI version of a clip to take off, then for three or more creators posting their own version within about three days, then for a CapCut template. Check Google last. On the trends we timed, the first viral AI version came a median of about 5 days before the search peak.
How do you find trending sounds on TikTok?
Open the sound on a clip you've seen copied: its page lists the videos using it. For AI remake trends the sound is usually the original clip's own upload, often split across several versions, so watch whether the count climbs from one day to the next rather than how big it is.
How can you tell if a sound is trending on TikTok?
Look at it twice, a day apart. A trending sound gains videos between the two looks, and the new ones come from creators you don't know doing the same thing. A big total on its own can be old: Hotel Lobby's official sound showed 447,000 videos on 14 Oct 2026, most of them from 2022.
Does TikTok Creative Center still show trends?
Not openly, when we checked on 16 Oct 2026: its trend pages for hashtags and songs redirected to TikTok One, TikTok's creative suite for businesses, and its trend data wasn't open to logged-out visitors. For AI video trends, watch the copies in your feed instead.
How do you know if a video will go viral on TikTok?
You can't know for sure, but the first few days tell you most of it. In our re-reads, remakes more than a week old mostly added 0–4% in a day, so a clip's growth shows early. For a trend rather than a one-off hit, the better sign is other creators posting their own version within a few days.
How do I find trending templates on CapCut?
Through the TikToks that use them: a post made from a CapCut template shows a 'CapCut · Try this template' link, and the template's page shows how many times it has been used. The Lion Friend template, for example, had about 4.28M uses on 16 Oct 2026.
How do I see TikTok trends?
On TikTok, a trend looks like the same clip coming back in your For You feed with different faces or pets. Off TikTok, this week's trends lists the AI video trends we track with their stage and the date we read it, including rising ones that aren't on the site yet, and AI trends in 2026 has them month by month.
